Exploring Life & Business with Joel Nickel of NickFlicks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Nickel.

Hi Joel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I began as a wedding planner and event planner for West Palm Beach, we worked with boat shows, Supercar, and other large-scale events that saw world series champs and renowned artists at the waterfront. From there, I found an interest in videography and worked alongside local influencers to develop my craft.

In 2020 the City of West Palm Beach went virtual and used the videography skills I had to keep my position. To put myself through a master’s degree and internship I left my full-time job during covid, launched my own videography LLC and have since booked 2-3 events per week and hold weekly clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Even if you prepare, it isn’t a smooth road. Some portions of the road are easy depending on an individual’s skill set.

Logistics may be difficult for some and easy for others, while networking and creativity skills come easy for others.

My struggle has been to prioritize and balance what’s important in my life. As a personable individual, I’ve had to tighten my social circle, improve my time management skills, and decrease but maximize my leisure time. For those who understand this dynamic, it’ll make sense.

Cut out what doesn’t serve you, but always be intentional with every conversation, and relationship. Remember where you are going and what you’re sacrificing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
NickFlicks is a small videography business based in Palm Beach Fl. We work with influencers, and start-up businesses on their social media and visions, drone for real estate properties, perform photography for municipalities, and videography for weddings.

We’re taking the 360 virtual tour equipment into other industries and enjoy crossing boundaries between industries in healthy ways. I’m proud to have started the company from nothing, saving my money to invest in videography, and then growing it to where we are now after our first year of business.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Videography is adapting and changing.

Brands need more long-term content creators and can get editors across the globe. I’d say more often than not, videography and editing should be interchangeable skills that a company needs to produce. When new pieces of technology come out, we should offer those in every market possible.
