Hidden Gems: Meet Diana Lopez of RaDia Beauty Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Lopez.

Hi Diana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am currently a Hispanic female medical spa business owner in Davie, but I’ve had a long road getting here. I began my journey into medicine traditionally, in the ICU at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, but have since ventured into the world of aesthetics to pursue my dream of what I like to call “Happy Medicine.” Working in the ICU shaped me as the provider I am. It taught me compassion and strengthened my empathy for others. Day in and day out I watched families go through life-altering, difficult times, and while they cemented the desire to be in medicine, it altered what that would look like for me.

I was born in New York City, but my Colombian parents moved us to sunny South Florida in my adolescence. I moved on to pursue my higher education at the University of Miami where I obtained my Bachelor of Nursing degree. Immediately after is when I embarked on my career in professional medicine.

I knew I wanted to do more. So, while working at the hospital, I decided I would continue my studies and went on to earn my Master of Science in Nursing. After passing my state boards for my nurse practitioner license, I knew it was time to step away from hospital medicine and follow my dream and purpose that lied in happy medicine. Shortly after, I got the opportunity I had been dreaming of to start working in a medical aesthetics practice, which is where my journey, for me, truly begins.

This was about 12 years ago, and I was working for a bigger, corporate Med Spa where I had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals and dip my toes in the industry. I knew then I had found my passion. After several years, I once again knew there was something more for me, so I began to work for a much more state-of-the-art practice.

What I thought was the right step for me, ended up being an extremely negative experience; however, these are the times that shape you and make you stronger. It ultimately led me to finding another practice that would introduce me to my mentors who would propel my career into the direction I needed.

Then, it was the pandemic that changed everything for me.

I was several months pregnant with my first child and had been laid off. I thought to myself, “It’s now or never. What do I have to lose?”

I always had the desire to start my own business but had been apprehensive in the past, because of the challenges. Deep down, I knew that my passion for the industry would help me get through. Me and my business partner took the leap and soon after, RaDia Beauty Lab was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been far from a smooth road. But every story comes with its roadblocks, and along the way, I have absorbed more knowledge than I could have imagined. Part of what makes it exciting is knowing that there’s always something new to learn. The part that makes it scary is the uncertainty that can come along with a new business – especially a new business opened during the pandemic in an oversaturated market with an ever-changing economy at that. It’s a daily challenge to grow the business and ensure its longevity, still.

Work-life balance was another challenge for me to face. Juggling new motherhood and being a new business owner is not easy. It was essentially like having two new babies at the same time. I had a 3-month-old baby and a newborn business.

As you know, we’re big fans of RaDia Beauty Lab. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a proud to share I am bilingual dual-board-certified pediatric and family nurse practitioner with over 17 years of clinical experience. This has brought me to be a co-founder of Radia Beauty lab, a women-owned medical spa, located in Downtown Davie.

My team specializes in non-surgical, anti-aging medical treatments, including Botox, dermal fillers, and skin treatments, such as microneedling and PRF. Our motto is “Beauty that looks natural without compromise,” which we stand by daily.

My vast experience as an aesthetic nurse practitioner allows me to make personalized recommendations and incorporate multiple treatment modalities to achieve the most natural aesthetic goal for my patients. As cases of over-treatment and over-correction have become more prevalent, RaDia takes a different approach. We understand the client’s motivation for treatment, their beauty goals, and reaching those goals without compromising their natural look.

Being able to help my clients feel good about themselves and give them back some confidence is what makes it all worth it. It’s important to me to develop a partnership with the client to achieve the best treatment outcome for them.

A crucial part of the process for me is to educate my clients and make them feel comfortable, valued, and heard so that they are part of it all. It can be a frightening experience for some and my goal is to make them enjoy every step.

Ultimately, my goal is to be honest with my clients and offer them an outstanding and safe result. Because of my value for education and always staying up to date with the ever-changing field of aesthetic medicine, I am confident I can give them a premier experience.
