Check Out Cari Fund’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cari Fund.

Hi Cari, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born in West Virginia and grew up on a horse ranch. I’ve received a Master’s in Clinical Nutrition from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition & Foods from West Virginia University. I worked in the beauty industry in New York City for over a decade, building brands, working behind the scenes, and even developing and selling my own skincare line. Recently I worked in corporate social media management for six years with clients in beauty, fashion, and restaurant. I’ve published two titles, Fake Perfect Me (2010) and For Internal Use Only (2012), and have always loved words.

I currently live in Miami Beach with my husband, two dogs and I’m a full-time helicopter mom to my daughter and son navigating what I call ‘Trophy Mom’ life in Miami. For the past eight years, I’ve worked incredibly hard to juggle it all. This past summer I started writing again. I’m writing my first non-fiction book; the book I believe I was born to write and have launched my social media platform to focus on Toxic Parenting Awareness.

There is a universal feeling that we all have as mothers– to be the mom we were born to be. What would it take for mothers to break free from their trauma, accept that we aren’t our childhood or our mothers, and take our power back? No matter our upbringing or hardships, we become the choices that we make. Together, one mother at a time, we can take responsibility and live our best lives. My passion is to inspire women to unconditionally love themselves, their kids and help them find their own inner badass.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always, but I’m learning that limitations are most often in our minds. Our greatest threat is not outside of us, but within. We must believe that we are worthy of success and the hard work will pay off. Also, being a full-time mother, I’m learning that I can make myself and my dreams a priority in my life and that it doesn’t take away from my love for my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m breaking the cycle of Toxic Parenting and building a platform to create Toxic Parenting Awareness. I’m currently writing with a book in progress. This project is very different for me. It’s nonfiction. It’s my story. I believe it’s the book I was born to write. In the midst of our busy lives and parenthood hustle, I hope to inspire others by shining a spotlight toxic parenting and help women and mother’s break their own toxic cycle and free from their generational trauma to prove a better way for future generations.

To know that even one person was inspired to break the cycle of their own generational trauma, shed their pain and shame, and become the mother or woman they were born to be, keeps me writing. I want her to win. I want kids to win.

Just like my book, I’m a work in progress. I’m continuing to turn my pain into power and unpack my suitcase of my toxic upbringing. Sometimes the most helpful thing is to just be seen or heard.

Through learning the value of self-love, I became the woman and now mother that my kids deserve. I’m raising strong, compassionate, and passionate human beings to change the world in their way. That’s my legacy.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I can be extremely sarcastic and a bit of a smart-ass.
