Exploring Life & Business with Alfredo Riascos of Gridline Properties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfredo Riascos.

Hi Alfredo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got into the real estate industry by accident when I was 19. I was looking for a summer internship during college and came across a Craigslist ad for a paid internship, which caught my eye. That led to an interview with a Miami Beach multi-family investor, which ultimately landed me the job, and the rest is history.

Shortly after that, I realized that residential real estate was not for me, and I jumped to my commercial real estate career in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami. I was very lucky to see and be involved in the growth of Wynwood at that time, which allowed me to benefit financially, but most importantly, it helped me learn a lot along the way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have been very fortunate for the most part, however, the brokerage business is an unforgiving one and it certainly has its ups and downs. I started back in 2007 at the beginning of the Great Recession, so I was able to learn from other people in the industry that lost it all. That taught me to always be humble and know that real estate goes up and down. That philosophy has allowed me to endure through the different real estate cycles.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Gridline Properties, a full-service commercial real estate brokerage firm based in Miami, has proven to be a leader in its industry by successfully brokering a notable portfolio of transactions in some of Miami’s most exciting submarkets including Wynwood, Midtown, Allapattah, Little River, MiMo, and East Hialeah. Our projects are driving progress and innovation to these up-and-coming districts which promote creativity and design. Additionally, Gridline is expanding its presence to Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Gridline is also growing alongside its team of successful agents. I am incredibly proud of my team, which continues to grow and prove that we have the most talented and dedicated agents in the industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I was lucky that I was at the right place, at the right time when I first got into commercial real estate. My career started in the Wynwood neighborhood in 2008 when it was still a rough industrial neighborhood. Little did I know that it was going to become one of the fastest-growing markets in the nation a few years after. Seeing that process unfold taught me many lessons and allowed be to have a place in that positive change.
