Today we’d like to introduce you to Osley Perez.
Osley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Cuba. I first found my love for photography at a young age of 7, when I pick up a vintage Soviet camera from my father’s closet. At that time, I was more intrigue with the artifact’s functioning than the action of taking photographs. Years later, I decided to study a ‘serious’ career, as my mother use to say and I went for architecture. Inevitably, the career opened my mind into the art world even further and my love for photography increased even further. This was the time when photography began to occupy an important place in my life. I was working on a documentary and social photography when I came to the United States eight years ago. Some of these photographs were exhibit on important galleries on Havana, this gave me the confidence to keep working as a photographer.
When I moved to this country I was determined to make my photo-by my full-time job. Maybe, at first, I was just an enthusiast but now I think I have become a full-time photographer. I’m obsessed with lighting and shadows, I’m always searching out new things. Capturing emotions, creating unique, real memories for my clients is what I love the most.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. I was so surprised how many “variables” there are within the career of photographer. Such of these years has been learning by doing. I didn’t take any business classes so I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning (besides knowing how to take pictures).
I’m still learning new things all the time, sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in that complicated world of SEO, social media, client interaction, editing and light. But it’s all been part of the process.

My insatiable appetite for the visuals spans me into commercial photography. I founded Osley Photography a few years ago.
We specialize in weddings, lifestyle portraiture and maternity photography.
Our main concern is try to capture the essence of our clients in a fashionable, unique way. We create different settings and discuss so many ideas for each session until the magic comes out.
We spend lots of time talking to clients to learn what they want and help them develop those ideas. As a small business, we are able to do the final editing on the photographs and we’re most proud of providing memorable images that will bring smiles to our clients’ faces years down the road.
