Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Keshishian.
Peter, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I once had a need for a smaller piece of metal. So, I went to went to the local DIY shop and only found standardized sizes which did not fit for my project. In addition to that, I realized I did not have any tools to cut the metal. Now, almost everybody can cut wood, but metal is a different story.
So I went to a local metal fabricator, the first reaction was we don’t want to do small jobs like that. The second metal fabricator quoted me an outrages price, which I did not want to pay, and the third fabricator said ok, but it took him 6-8 weeks to finally providing me the small metal part I was looking for.
This experience made me think and the result is MetalsCut4U an online platform where everybody can configure the size of metal he/she needs at a great price in a very short time.
Customers throughout the USA can now configure 14 different shapes online starting with a simple rectangle or circle all the way to different channels or even a box, by answering 4 simple questions:
- Which metal kind?
- Which metal finish?
- Which thickness?
- Which form or shape?
By clicking on the options and in step 4 entering the measurements we need to actually fabricate the metal, the customer will get an instant price information and then can place the item into the shopping cart. From there on the process is just like any other online order.
Once the order is placed the customer can lay back until he gets the self-configured metal part delivered to his doorstep.
If the customer needs something even more individual, like a sign/logo or an additional service like drilling a hole into the metal, he can contact us directly by sending us a small sketch showing us where that hole should be placed.
We in return, send him a free quote, from which the customer then can place the order.
Everything on the website is serving one big goal: Keep it simple! for the customer.
This is the reason why we offer only the most commonly used metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel. By offering the most common thicknesses and finishes the customer does not get overwhelmed with choices and actually can configure and order his custom cut metal part within a very short time.
All orders are made to order so there is nothing sitting on our shelves ready to be shipped out. This is the reason that we have a fabrication lead time of 8 – 10 business days. After that, the shipment is on its way.
Of course, we offer on our website general information about metal fabrication, like cutting methods and informing the customer about the metal itself. We even have an active blog where we write about our projects we have with our customers, some being very special and others are showing us their DIY project result.
Has it been a smooth road?
Combining the internet with a “brick and mortar” service can be challenging at times.
While the sheet metal fabrication and everything that has to do with it has its own challenges, offering this service online brings a whole lot of new challenges.
Being a purely online sheet metal fabrication service, you always have to be up to date with technology and the constant changes in that area. Things like SEO and link building are hard work and take up a big part of my time.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MetalsCut4U Inc. story. Tell us more about the business.
We offer 14 different forms and shapes which the customer can configure online. But often the customer wants an even more individualized solution. We offer help for those customers as well.
The customer will have to send us a small sketch or drawing and we happily have look at it and if we can fabricate the customers’ design we will provide him with a free quote.
Most of our orders are one-offs, the customer has the freedom to order just one part and is not forced to buy more then what he actually needs.
The complete process is as simple as possible, offering even an inexperienced customer a pleasant shopping experience.
We get great feedback from our customers a) on the process as well and b) about the quality of the product the customer receives.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
NO, not really. Metal fabrication has been around for a very, very long time. The techniques of how to work with metal especially cutting it has obviously has changed over the centuries. Today, we can cut metal with different techniques such as laser cutting, which is very fast and highly precise.
