Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Locklin.
Hi Krista, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Sure! I have always felt a passion for photography since I was young, which led me to take a photography class in college. Well, that and some convincing from my mom (turns out she does know best)! From there, I practiced a ton and eventually began offering graduation photo sessions to my friends who were graduating in 2017. Since 2017, word of mouth, and social media has allowed me to explore many types of photography, including but not limited to family portraits, headshots, events, sports, engagements, weddings, maternity photos, and more. I am now finishing my 6th year of professional photography in South Florida and have met so many great people along the way. The decision to take a photography class in college has been one of the best decisions I have made. It has allowed me to meet and build great relationships with clients wanting to capture some of the most special times of their lives!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Learning photography, as well as how to manage a business on my own has been a little bumpy along the way for sure. In the beginning, my struggles were just learning my camera and the correct settings to bring the vision in my head to life through my camera lens. Then, it was trial and error when it came to business practices and pricing my services. I have also dealt with anxiety before big photoshoots, but luckily, I have some great people in my life who always support me and remind me of what I’ve already accomplished and am capable of!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My photography business is called Krista Lee Photography and I travel all around South Florida offering a variety of different types of photography sessions. I specialize in outdoor portrait sessions such as family photos, graduation photos, engagement sessions, content creation for business owners, bloggers, and much more! I am known for my graduation photos as well as the editing that I do. I am a perfectionist, so I photoshop out most distracting things from my clients’ finished photos. If there’s a person, garbage can, or even a car in the background of your photo that I am able to remove, I will! Many of my clients have come to me because they have seen my editing highlight on Instagram and know that I will do all I can to give them the perfect photo free of distractions! This is also what sets me apart from others because not all photographers offer this service. What I am most proud of brand-wise is that I have clients who come back year after year to get updated photos and also it is a great feeling knowing that when someone they know is looking for a photographer, my name comes up!
