Meet Alejandra Colmenares of Ayah Brands in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Colmenares.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My path to the agency started about 3 years ago. I had just broken up with my ex-boyfriend and had moved in with my best friend to a new apartment in New York. The feeling of being lonely and sad pushed me to start researching about meditation and emotional intelligence. I started reading about Buddhism, and joined a Buddhist group in New York that ultimately lead me on this path. I started meditating for just few minutes a day and that’s when everything started changing. I started working on myself and understood I was the only one responsible for my own happiness, as well as on the effect my emotions and actions could have on my family and friends.

While searching for happiness and fulfillment, I realized that my mission and vision in life where not aligned with my job. I was working as the E-commerce Director for Adrienne Vittadini, a luggage designer, and even though I had dreamed about having such a position in my life, I was not happy or fulfilled at all.

I enjoyed my job, but it wasn’t too clear to me why I was still not happy with it. During that time I started dating my current boyfriend, an entrepreneur who, besides being very successful in his career, was also very happy with the impact he was creating. I began learning so much from him, and was lucky enough to be pushed and inspired to start creating my future on my own.

I got myself a business coach to better understand what was it that the universe was calling me to do. After months of digging in, I realized it wasn’t my job that I did not like, but the product I was behind. While being in Ecuador on a retreat, I had a dream about what I was going to do next and what I was going to create. The dream was so vivid it even guided me to contacting a person I knew of but was not friends with. This person was going to come into my life and help me make this dream happen.

2 years later, I moved to Miami with my boyfriend and that’s when everything started. I was still consulting for few companies but my heart was still focused on the idea of creating something beautiful. After months of working on my own fears I decided to make the jump and quit all my current projects to focus on the agency. That’s when everything started, in May of 2017.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest struggle I faced was my own fear. The fear of failure! It took me months to get over my fears, and to begin not only understanding the concept that we are all capable of achieving whatever we desire, but to actually feel it. To experience the fear for what it is, breathe, accept it, and get through it with love and compassion. Once I understood my fears were only in my thoughts and not a reflection of who I was, the GAME changed.

Please tell us about Ayah Brands.
I founded Ayah Brands early 2017.  We specialize in placing our brands in different online marketplaces as well as TV shows.

Our vision is to provide a multitude of sales channels for brands looking to increase their presence in the E-commerce and TV Market. We believe that by creating a more organic shopping experience with an eco-conscious supply chain, customers will naturally gravitate to the brands we promote.

Ayah Brand’s mission is to help as many as eco-friendly brands as possible. We feel responsible for what we bring to our customers, and want to offer them a product that not only is good for them to use and does not risk their health, but also has a positive impact on their lives.

We are very happy to share we are now working with around 50 different brands that are currently placed in popular retailers. The brands business’ continues to grow and in turn, so is the impact we have on our customers.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
After many years of internal work and finding myself at the deepest level, my favorite memory, as of now, is opening my eyes when I was being held in my mom’s arms and looking up into her eyes, feeling her love and protection.  It’s a feeling I now carry with me and try to remember at all times.
