Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Acaso.
Hi Joy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t know what I wanted to study in college or what to do with my life afterward. Or maybe it was that there were so many things that I wanted but couldn’t pick one. Just before graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree, I took a class in nonprofit management. For some reason that I can’t remember now, I chose to write about Children and Social Welfare.
That was my turning point, my big Aha! moment. My professor was so impressed with my research and encouraged me to go to grad school. Now, he didn’t tell me what field of study to specifically focus on but since I started that research, I became so fascinated with Social Work.
Yes. Fascinated. I haven’t looked back since. Having a background in social work is the best. Since 2004, I’ve been doing my thing and loving every minute of it. With my Master’s Degree, I was able to work in a community-based program to counsel families, and youth and facilitate small groups. I’ve also gone into medical social work.
These days, I’m focused on private practice as an Anxiety Support Coach and Licensed Psychotherapist. I provide support for busy women who want to overcome stress, anxiety, or unresolved trauma. In our work together, we’re able to deepen their capacity for love, connection, joy, and achievement. It’s a beautiful thing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had to deal with obstacles along the way. This was the first time that I ventured into becoming a business owner. I’ve always worked for someone else. Then all of a sudden, I was a CEO. I knew why I wanted to do it. It would allow me to work with clients who needed resources and support with their stress and feelings of anxiety.
Unresolved trauma can have a profound impact on someone’s life and I was also determined to make sure people knew that they have options for healing. I hired a business coach and a neuroscience coach. I also attended rigorous training on topics that I wanted to specialize in.
Today I’m happy to say that I’m a Certified Brain Health Coach and a Certified Trauma-Resilient Practitioner. I have extensive training in Neuroscience and Somatic (Body) Work. Even when the process wasn’t so smooth, I had people on my side who kept me accountable. They encouraged me. Most of all, they helped me overcome my trauma.
As a coach and therapist, I’m not exempt from suffering, hurt, or pain. I, too, continue to learn, grow and evolve in my work and personal life. My career isn’t just a job for me. It is my life purpose. I have helped thousands of individuals and families over the years. I want to keep doing it for 30-plus more years.
We’ve been impressed with Wellspring Living, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The goal of my private practice is to provide therapy and coaching for women who want solutions for their overwhelmed and stressed. When those things do not get resolved, they could potentially turn into intense anxiety. Sometimes, they even show up as illnesses.
I am passionate about educating women and their families about practical steps that don’t take so much time. These steps lead them to cope with challenges in healthier ways. The first step is to build awareness. Identify those stressors and be clear about how they are negatively impacted. Then we create a personalized road map.
This is essential because there are hundreds of tools out there. Not everything will apply. Not everyone will resonate with all the techniques. Hence, the roadmap is customized to every client’s needs. I take into account their lifestyle, their goals, and the season they’re in.
I offer different levels of services. I conduct group workshops. I also have 1:1 clients. Online courses are available for those who want to work at their own pace. When you go to my website you can download your free guide to mental wellness. I consider it an honor to be able to debunk myths about mental health.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My job is a high calling for me. It has always been important that I align myself with what God truly wants me to do. I am a woman of faith and I pray every day. I pray for my clients and of course for myself. I show up with the same energy as I would if I had one client or 50.
I am called to serve from a place of love. I keep these core values in my heart and mind. These are the things that propel me. There will always be challenges in my life and business but I know that I am not alone. I am always supported by a generous God. He leads the way. I also place a high priority on my personal growth. I am not exempt from stress. Making sure that I holistically nurture myself is a must. I surround myself with people from whom I can learn and we uplift one another.
