Check Out Courtney Hill’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hill.

Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My story began in Pennsylvania. I am a Philadelphia native and I relocated to South Florida during the Summer of 2020. I would visit South Florida on a fairly consistent basis and finally decided to make the ultimate move during the pandemic. In Philadelphia, I started my career in the social services industry.

I am a Temple University graduate along with having my Masters’s degree in Psychology. I have worked in this field for sixteen years and I have continued my work both in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. In addition to working with children and families, I also have a blog, Defining Chic. I started blogging in 2013 as an outlet to share my love for fashion with others.

Since moving to Florida, I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing, encouraging people most notably through the South Florida Blogger Union. My dream is to transition into becoming a full-time content creator and help others to define their chic and feel confident and empowered.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly it has been quite a smooth road thankfully. Everything seemed to effortlessly fall into place since I arrived. I’m not sure if it’s the southern hospitality, but South Florida has been a very welcoming and supportive environment. This has been further confirmation that I am exactly where I am supposed to be and I am super excited to see where this journey will continue to lead me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Defining Chic journey began almost a decade ago. I have always loved fashion and beauty and for as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with style. I am a millennial and I remember growing up wanting to re-create the looks that I saw on TV and in my favorite teen magazines.

My blog started with me showcasing celeb looks for less as well as tips on how to be stylish on a budget. As time passed, I started to focus more on how to be fashionable, and confident and how to ultimately Define Your Chic along with sharing some of my adventures throughout South Florida.

I am most proud that despite my taking breaks, having moved to another state, and just life in general, I have continued to stay the course and my passion for fashion and style has been unwavering. I believe that we are beautifully unique and we all bring something special to the table when it comes to the blogging and creator community.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The best advice that I can give regarding networking is to be open. You have to be willing to explore and step out of your comfort zone. I know that phrase can seem cliché however to open new doors, we may have to do things that make us feel slightly uncomfortable.

Social media has been a great tool for networking. Attending events in your area as well as joining Meetup groups to connect with others with shared interests has worked great for me both personally and professionally.
