Today we’d like to introduce you to Gena Bofshever.
Gena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out as a fitness trainer working at New York Sports Club but wanted more. I always knew I would do something in the health field, so after seeing friends and family successful and happy, I decided to go to chiropractic school. Upon graduating, I practiced in a family wellness practice in the mountains of Pennsylvania but wanted to give living closer to my immediate family a chance. I sold all my furniture, packed up my car, and drove down south. But before establishing my professional roots in South Florida, I spent four-month backpacking around South East Asia.
When I returned, I started out by doing office coverage work. I would get hired per-diem to see patients in 11 different practices, while I figured out if Florida was a place for me to stay. I grew fond of wearing flip flops all year, loved the sunshine, and met amazing friends and business connections. It was easy to stay in Fort Lauderdale, where I then opened my own practice (as an independent contractor).
After the first two years, I began construction on the beautiful, modern, state-of-the-art facility that I now see patients out of. Dr. Gena Chiropractic has now been open for 5 1/2 years and continues to grow! We have two doctors, a massage therapist, along with phenomenal full and part-time staff who work both in and out of the office at the many events, talks, and corporate Lunch & Learn events that we host. We work hard, but we have fun living our passion!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was NOT always easy. I did not know exactly how many sleepless nights, and just how much energy being an entrepreneur would take. The biggest struggles involved getting known in an area where I knew no one at the start. Other challenges involved finding the right space and funding the buildouts to keep up with our growth.
Lastly, one of the hardest things has been building the right team. I think having people to support and help work towards your dream, makes all the difference. Every hardship has been a lesson along the way, and as cheesy as it sounds, it’s helped me get to the place I am at today!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dr. Gena Chiropractic story. Tell us more about the business.
Our business is Dr. Gena Chiropractic. We are a family, wellness, facility, that offers chiropractic, massage therapy, and lifestyle-community workshops. We specialize in chiropractic and have a passion and extra training for the care of pregnancy, pediatrics, and family wellness. I would say that asides from chiropractic, we are best known for our energy.
Anyone who’s ever stepped foot into our office, always comments on the energy they feel. We are proud of the growth and community impact we have made in Fort Lauderdale, in a short amount of time! But we are most proud of our commitment to motivate and inspire people to live life to the fullest potential, naturally.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
People have told me “you have really good luck” over the years. But I’ve always felt that it’s not luck that has brought me any of my success. I think it’s a combined matter of hard work, dedication, some sacrifice, and seizing opportunities that have come my way.
So much of my life and business revolve around my mindset. I am willing to work really hard and have developed routines that I practice both daily and weekly to keep me focused, on track, and attracting more of positive “luck” into my life.
