Meet Claudia Henao of Henao Glass in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Henao.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Claudia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Claudia Henao, I am a wife, mother, glass artist and color lover. My passion for this material started in Europe (Germany), in the year 2000 where I lived and learned a lot about glass. Fusing, the main technique I use originates from early European and Egyptian artisans.

Working with Glass as the main medium and mixing it with the methods I use and create unique glass pieces. These pieces are highly durable to aging, and at the same time extremely fragile. There is nothing perfect about my work because perfection is not what I’m striving for. Rather, I try to provoke beauty in the imperfect along with a physical response. I want people to touch and feel the textures that make each piece handmade. Imperfection is part of handmade, and it is a part of the story in my work.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a road with difficulties and breaks. I started working with glass in Germany when my children were very little (Nico 6 years old and Andrea 6 months old). Then, we moved to Chile and after to the USA where we currently live in Delray Beach, FL since 2012.

I had to work in different companies that had nothing to do with my art, just to be able to save money and achieve my goal. Without speaking the language, without knowing people, the system, the culture, etc.

In 2015, I managed to open Henao Glass Studio in Boca Raton, FL. The passion and respect for what I do keep me motivated and still do.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Henao Glass – what should we know?
Henao Glass Design is a company that offers design, decoration, and glass art services. All my pieces are 100% handmade.

I work with the best materials that exist for glass, imported from Germany and Italy. Henao Glass distinguishes itself by working with strong and vibrant colors. I deal directly with the client and according to their needs, I prepare their personalized designs. I like to combine the finished pieces with different elements such as metal, wood, stones, light, etc.

I am proud of my work, because with my effort, persistence and commitment with myself and my clients, I am where I am. My work is distinguished because I have the sensitivity to transmit to the physical matter (glass) the need of my clients, provoking sensations and transporting them to other imaginary places.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First are my husband and children, who have always been my great support. They have given me the support and freedom to perform as an artist. I have had to travel away from home on several occasions, either to learn or to work.

Also, I have friends and key customers that have helped me get where I am. They have been faithful to my person and work, which I appreciate immensely.
