Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Gomez.
Hi Heidi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a very a young age, I knew I wanted to be in the communications industry. I loved the camera, talking to people and was creative by nature. At the age of eighteen, I was hosting in a local tv show called “By Kids 4 Kids” channel 10. Through my experiences hosting, I fell in love with broadcast, Journalism. I went on to study and graduate with a degree in Mass Communications from Florida International University. After I graduated, many changes came about in my life, both personally and career-wise. I got engaged, married six months later, and got a job at Screen Actors Guild. I am innately a planner, so I was happy to see my life dreams and aspirations come to fruition.
We then decided it was time to expand our family. I had a beautiful little girl named Sophia. When I had Sophia, my plan was to go back to work but at the time she had some medical issues and I just couldn’t bear to leave her. I decided I would stay with her and resume my career later. I quickly realized that sometimes things in life do not go as we plan but rather as they should. Every time I would plan on working again, an issue or situation would arise at home that would impede me going back to work. Although I love my daughter, I can honestly say I had a hard time adjusting to being a stay-at-home mom and missed my independence. I had worked my whole life and loved feeling mentally stimulated.
Despite my yearning to go back to work, my daughter truly was the best thing that happened to me. I went on to have two more children. Today I have three children in total, Sophia 13, Noah 7, and Farah 2. They are my greatest accomplishment in life.
Even after all these years I still couldn’t shake my need to create, to work to some capacity. That’s not to say that being a homemaker is not work because honestly, it is one of the hardest jobs. I have so much respect for stay-at-home moms. There’s no days off, no vacation and no monetary gain. Sadly, no one remembers the stay-at-home moms. Our society always remembers the lawyers, the doctors, journalist, etc. This is something I feel very passionate about as I have experienced it myself.
This sentiment has given me the drive to find new ways to be a stay-at-home mom and still fulfill my passion and career aspirations. This is why I decided to become a content creator. I could do this at home while watching my children and if I don’t succeed at it, at least I revived a side of me that was dormant for so long. I also love fashion and it has always been a big part of my life. Even while I was pregnant, I was wearing haute couture jewelry in the Miami Heat. Therefore, I decided to join my two loves- fashion and digital creating with a little bit of lifestyle in there too. I started my YouTube channel “House of Heidi Miami” and put more effort into my Instagram.
I have learned so much not only about content creation but about myself. Through creating, I have found my true passion. I love the art of creating something out of nothing and making it your own. It’s today’s day and age version of storytelling. To me, it’s the funnest way to tell a story. While I do believe that social media can have negative aspects, it does have so much positive. I love how social media allows the creator to dictate the narrative of the story. It gives everyone an opportunity to tell their story as they wish. To me, this is freedom as a creator. Content creation is an art just like painters, or musicians- when allowed to create freely, beautiful things come about. Although I have yet to reach my goals as a creator, it has become a true passion of mine and has given life to who I feel I truly am. Whether some agree or not, social media, content creation and everything related is directly connected to Journalism and Mass Communication. Journalist are professional storytellers and creators. With that said, I am excited for the future and ready to grow not only as a creator but as a modern-day Journalist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy. Succeeding as a content creator is a lot harder than it seems. I have learned it’s more than just creating great content. I had to learn SEO, in fact, I still haven’t figured out that part. It’s a little bit of luck too. Being at the right place at the right time is also a key factor. Unfortunately, when it comes to content creation, you just can’t do it alone. You need people to believe in you and love what you do to follow you on the journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a former Journalist who is now a fashion and lifestyle digital creator. I believe my experience as a journalist, stay-at-home mom and my multi-cultural marriage (husband is from Morocco, I am Latin American) gives me a worldly yet relatable edge that resonates with people. Moving forward, I am excited to share more of my personal story and develop my YouTube channel.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
In the world of content creation, you need people to collaborate with you and believe in your work. I need to grow my audience so that I can tell my story. I need subscribers to my YouTube channel House of Heidi Miami and followers on my Instagram @houseofheidimiami. If I can grow my audience, I am optimistic that I can succeed as a content creator. I would also love to show more of my beautiful city and work with local fashion brands.
