Meet Frida Karlsson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frida Karlsson.

Frida, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Sweden, my whole family lives there. My whole life is there. Everything in my life changed after I broke up with my ex-boyfriend who I had been together with since I was 20. So, when I was 26 years old, I decided to pack up my things and move to the country I have always dreamed about. I moved to LA all by myself, even if I’m terrified of airports and I get panic attacks, I still did it. I guess I could handle the fear I had inside me because I had dreamed about it for so many years. I had just broken up with my boyfriend who I was with for 5,5 years. I didn’t want to be close to him, it was too much to handle at that time.

I have dreamed about America since I was 13 years old, I even told my mom that I didn’t belong in Sweden and that I was gonna move from there someday. I moved to Los Angels to study and to have the time of my life. I met good friends and went to all the crazy parties. I had some weird and scary dates, I met the wrong people for me, I grew as a person a lot to move there by myself. I tasted new food from different countries that I have never knew about. For me, Sweden and Swedish food was everything for me, but now I can see that the world is so big and so many different ways to make food at. After I while, I met my boyfriend in L.A, we moved in together and bought our first dog who we named Kobe. We kinda decided very fast that LA was not for us and we both wanted to try Miami. I was so miserable the first 3-4 months, I had no friends, almost no furniture because of covid, it was depressing. Now after a year and a half, I love it here, I can feel that this is the place to be, this is home. For the first time in my life, I’m at a place where I actually feel right at home, I have my amazing boyfriend and our son Kobe. My boyfriend and I are living in Brickell and I have never felt more safe, I couldn’t say that life is perfect, but it’s as close as it can be in just this moment. Now the next step in my life is my career. I’m soon gonna start my classes for permanent makeup and I’m so excited for that. Next goal in my life is to work as a model, a real model for commercial, tv, fashion shows, I want to do it all. But I do know that I’m 28 years old and yes, that is older, but I have a very young face so I’m sure I could pull it off even if I’m 28. I’m hopeful for the future and I believe that it’s my time to shine and show Miami what I can do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No furniture when we moved to Miami. Our dog Kobe has a breathing problem, his throat is closing when I get excited, and like the doggie mom, I treat him as my baby. Sometimes it’s very stressful.

Moving and leaving my whole life and family have been a struggle, I miss them so much!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I’m gonna take my makeup classes and try with the modeling. I also have a big interest in interior design, I’m working for a girl named Simone, she has her own business as an interior designer, her company’s name is “Stockhomed”. We are doing everything from organizing closets to buying you a whole new living where you can feel comfortable in your style. I’m most proud of organizing, specially closets, that is something I’m really good at. I also make my own canvas paintings and hope to be able to sell them in the future.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Probably when my dad bought a very old fire truck that he put on our garden for all the kids in the neighborhood to play with. I don’t remember so many good childhood memories, my parents divorced when I was 12, and after that my mom moved so I was living with my dad and my brother, it was a difficult time in my life.
