Meet Clara Bernardo Of Start Planning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clara Bernardo.

Hi Clara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the 90’s. Ever since I was young, I’ve been artistically inclined, I studied musical theater, dance and acting.

With time, I started realizing that these activities were more of a hobby and I started to think what type of work would motivate me to get up every morning. After some though I began thinking about how much I enjoy having people at my house, being the host, preparing, designing and organizing any size of a party is my true passion, anything from a dinner with a few friends to a 400 person wedding.

My brother has been working in the event space for some time and talking to him about this opportunity, he mentioned Event Planning as a career, a field of study I didn’t even know existed up until then.

I studied in COE (Centro de Organización de eventos) and at the same time spent a lot of time working as an intern for different events and organizers. Through a lot of time spent as an assistant and an active learner, I began my career in event planning.

You can spend all the time you want in a classroom, but this is one of those jobs that you learn from doing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started very young which allowed me to grow within the industry. Of course, there are a lot of learnings along the way and people who have been working on events for several years. I dedicated lots of years to learning the craft from before deciding to go on my own. Today, thanks to that patience that comes with learning, me and my associate Belen Garcia Gattino would grow faster than what we could have ever imagined.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in experiences, thats our main focus. We always tell our clients that a wedding or an event has to be a holistic experience and we hold ourselves to the highest of standards. We take a lot of pride in our attention to detail, we believe it makes all the difference, the type of things you don’t really understand the importance of but are the thing that holds the event together. These details can be large or small and go from a well-placed candle to a band that brings the party to a peak.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We saw a glimpse of what I believe the future of events will look like in the next years. During the lockdown, we had to re-invent the way we understood our industry, we did  virtual events that were streamed online, we had to develop ideas and technology so people of any age could celebrate birthdays across the globe and I believe we will see more of that.

That being said, we are seeing a trend where weddings are larger productions now. Before, a couple would focus on the food, guest list and table arrangements. Today, we are seeing a lot more focus on ambiance, lighting, shows and the dance floor, we’ve organized some weddings that looked like theatre productions.
