Today we’d like to introduce you to Carm Mazza.
Carm, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 1998, I was very interested in owning a local bar and I started looking around and had a little luck. I stumbled across a little local dive bar on the north end of Boca Raton. The Ugly Duckling! Its reputation was poor and the place was dirty. But I loved the promise of it.
The customer base was a solid group of “Men”, all men. But I had a vision and loved the potential. We endured some bumps in the road and proudly brought the Duck Tavern in November 1999. After a major overhauling, we were on our way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, I had to deal with cleaning up the place and hiring the staff I wanted. The inmates were running the asylum.
My next challenge was to improve the worse night and move onto the next and so on. There was a lot of trial and error, but we have supported local Live music and raised thousands of dollars to local charities.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Duck Tavern – what should we know?
We are a local dive bar that supports local live music and we are known for great prices and excellent Wings and very good housemade food.
I am proud of how we are a comfortable bar for ALL customers to come and enjoy there time here.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We provide quality food and treat people right. We want people to be comfortable and relax and unwind.
And we accomplished that.
