Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Lund.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At the age of 18, I started instructing Kiteboarding at various Kiteboarding Centers in both South Florida and North Carolina. Over that time I learned a lot about the different approaches to teaching this unique sport. I quickly figured out what worked well and what did not.
I eventually developed a lesson structure that helped me spawn my own Kiteboarding school in 2007. Since then my goal has been to offer the very best equipment, learning/coaching tools, and best experience I could. It was not easy, I started this company with a 5000 dollar loan from my father and maxed out my credit cards many times in the first 3 years. I did not have any background in business or formal business training so that part of it was and sometimes still is the school of hard knocks.
Fortunately, the local Kiteboarding community has supported me in so many ways that I was able to overcome any obstacles. So special thanks, you always goes out to them!
About 5 years ago, I heavily invested the growth of the business. Since then I have hired and worked with multiple instructors who share my passion for the sport. This has helped me grow my Kite School into what it is today. Our experience is not just a Kiteboarding lesson, it is a guided excursion to unique riding areas.
We now have 3 modernized, high-end watercraft and our rental gear is made up latest and best equipment available on the market. I am very proud and excited when I look at what New Wave Kiteboarding has become.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Teaching Kiteboarding has always come naturally to me so that part was easy. Learning the business side of things proved to be difficult at times, but it was also the best education I ever received. As many entrepreneurs know, there are a lot of times you have to work for free or even more common is to actually pay to go work.
In the first few years, I actually sidelined this business a few times and temporarily pursued other careers. But the Kiteboarding industry kept calling me back. Good or bad, I am thankful for all of the experiences I have had growing this business.
NewWaveKiteboarding.com – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
New Wave Kiteboarding is a full-service Kiteboarding school specializing in a high-end approach to the sport. We are known for having the best of the best of everything. More so, we are known for the safe and very technical approach to the sport. We really don’t leave out any details. Our students leave us with the knowledge that even many advanced riders don’t have.
We also have a Stuart, FL based lesson center that offers our clients an opportunity to learn the sport in knee/waist deep water that is protected from the depths and dangers of the beach or open ocean. We have given well over 4000 kiteboarding lessons and are among the most experienced in the industry.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When magazines such as this one reach out to me for an interview, it always makes me feel very accomplished. But what really makes me happy is when I pull up to work and look at all the amazing toys, tools and products that New Wave KIteboarding has come to offer.
