Meet Rami Levi of MagicPay Merchant Services in Boca Raton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rami Levi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rami. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the founder of MagicPay Merchant Services. Around 6 years ago, I was a 19-year-old college student, making a few dollars on the side as a Disc Jockey for private events. My business was picking up, and so was the demand for customers to pay with credit cards. Been a good college student I have researched how to do so online and decided to go with one company I thought was reliable.

The first couple of months were good and customers paid with credit cards successfully. A few months later I signed an agreement with a customer for a decent sized event, totaling about $2,000. I charged the customer for the amount, and this is when problems started.

The money did not arrive, so I tried to contact the company I was working with, just to find out they only answer to customer service via email. No live representative. After 3 days I have received an email that my account would be shut down and my money would remain on hold for 180 days.

Disappointed but determined to find another solution, I have applied for a merchant account with multiple payment processors. Each to decline me for being a “high-risk” merchant. When asked “What is high risk?” each company had their own unique explanation. Bottom line, I was not able to accept credit cards, this is when MagicPay came to my mind.

I asked myself “How many other people are at the same situation, been unable to accept credit cards just because payment processors categorize them as high-risk?”. A few days go by and I find myself researching the industry and starting MagicPay. 6 years later and we are with hundreds of clients, from the US, Canada, and the US Virgin Islands.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing good comes easy, that’s one thing I learned over time. One of the major challenges I have faced at the beginning is the ability to find a reliable provider to work with. Due to myself been denied from merchant accounts across multiple processors, now my credit was touched too many times, and the providers I looked to work with were reluctant to work with me, thinking that I am an unreliable person with an odd business idea. I had to start working under another company and build my reputation, which took us close to two years until we got to the point we wanted, which is to be able to work with multiple providers, the top ones in our industry.

MagicPay Merchant Services is a payment processing company. We provide payment processing solutions to business owners, including debit and credit card processing, ACH processing and eCheck processing. We offer great flexibility to our merchants since our network consists of multiple vendors. MagicPay believes that every merchant has the right to accept payments, as long as within the borders of the law.

We specialize in high-risk merchant accounts – which are merchant accounts that traditional payment processors may decline based upon multiple characteristics:
1. Merchant’s credit rating – we work with merchants with good or bad credit, we do not discriminate against merchants with poor credit.
2. Card-not-present environment – many processors are reluctant to work with online merchants or MOTO merchants (merchants that key all transactions manually) because they believe those transactions are too risky for them to take responsibility on. MagicPay helps merchants understand their risk factor, and negotiate a unique customized solution with each merchant, on a term both the acquiring company and the merchant would agree on.
3. Merchants from “high-risk” industries – those merchants include financial services companies, travel agencies, advertising firms, consulting companies, moving companies and a variety of other industries that most processors include in their “restricted” or “prohibited” merchant list.

On top of that, MagicPay is proud to be one of the few payment processors to service the U.S. Virgin Islands. We believe that merchants on the islands are entitled to the same service, rates, and technology as here in the states, so MagicPay helps retailers and e-commerce merchants in the USVI process payments in a reliable, modern and fast processing environment.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Israel and moved to the United States when I was 13. My parents were (and still are) hard-working individuals that did not omit from me and my sibling’s anything, Even though times were tough they made sure we know that they are always there for us.

At age 12 my father came to the United States to prepare the grounds for us to arrive, so I was left with my two younger siblings and my mother, I felt the responsibility my father had, and back then I determined that growing up I’ll make a difference. I was business oriented form the time I can remember myself. Sports was not part of my hobbies, and from childhood, I started examining ways to earn money.

I fixed computers, worked at a gaming arcade, became a Disc Jockey, but knew that one day I’ll find that thing that would make a change for me and others.
