Conversations with Timmy F

Today we’d like to introduce you to  Timmy F

Hi Tim, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a singer, rapper, songwriter, actor, and clothing designer born and raised in Chicago near the White Sox stadium. With the support of my father and older brother, I started singing at just six years old. I moved to Michigan at nine years old, and at 11 years old, I started writing My own raps as well as participating in school talent shows. By the time I was 12, I began to put his art out on platforms like YouTube and SoundCloud.

I moved back to Chicago at 16 years old and after getting his High School diploma, I began to explore his talents on-screen in shows like Empire, Shameless, The Chi, Chicago Pd, and Southside. In 2017, at 19 years old, I launched my clothing brand known as Swindle and Brute with many pieces inspired by my own lyrics. Music always remained and I continued to share my music on Facebook, Spotify, and now Apple Music. I’m most loved for my songs ‘Heartless’, ‘Tim the Great,’ and ‘Long Live 5 nem’. You can find me on Facebook as Timmy F and on Instagram as @Timmy_F25. You can shop with Swindle and Brute on Instagram as well at @swindleandbrute.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Lack of support has definitely been struggle along the way when it comes to me doing music and making clothes. Sometimes with clothes there will be weeks you can make 1000 dollars and some weeks you can make 100 dollars. Sometimes there is weeks you will make absolutely nothing. As far as music goes, some people may be able to relate to your music which will make them want to play it over and over again. But that’s not always the case. There will always be highs and lows you just got to keep going go through every emotion. It’s like throwing gum at the wall if you keep throwing it one day something will stick.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in songwriting and streetwear designing. First, I’m known for music over time, I’ve made songs that a lot of people favor. I’ve even went viral on social media a few different times from posting home videos of me doing music whether it was rapping or singing. Also back in 2017, I participated in a fashion designing internship curated by Virgil Abloh and Don C from Chicago where I jump started my clothing brand. You can read all about it in an article on complex. I’m most proud of me seeing everything through no matter how many times I was at my lowest or even the times I wanted to quit and give up on my dreams I seen it through and continued to give it all I had. Something that sets me apart from others is my work ethic. I’m willing to put forth 20k hours behind my craft to perfect all that I do. I feel as if no one works as hard as me.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned would have to be to learning to take my time on things don’t be so quick to jump the gun or overdo anything. Give the things I created a little time for people to enjoy and accept before I’m shoving something else in their face cause as you know, time adds value.
