Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Piedrahita.
As the trend of boutique donut shops swept the nation, South Florida found itself a few years behind, until the 2013 Mojo Donuts debut in Pembroke Pines. Shawn and Shelly Neifeld opened their unassuming shop to the delight of many a doughnut lover. The place quickly rose in esteem and became a South Florida staple. In 2016 hoping to further woo Floridians by extending their distinctive brand a bit further into the heart of Miami.
There was a general cry, clearly stated in Mojo’s reviews, for a more Southern location that could accommodate clients who would frequently visit from Kendall, Homestead, and even the Keys. Jimmy’s response was to create a partnership between Shawn Neifeld, Willie Muñoz and himself to address this need in a quick and successful way.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing great comes easy. We work hard to maintain the level of service at the level of our donuts. In just 12 months, Miami has embraced us as the go-to donut shop. The struggles have been overcoming the initial years’ hiccups and roadblock while putting at ease growing pains. We couldn’t even do a grand opening because from the time we opened our doors, people have been coming in non-stop.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Mojo Donuts already caters to a wide variety of foodies, with confections like the ‘slutty brownie’ (a glazed doughnut topped with Nutella, filled with chocolate mousse and garnished with brownie, oreo and chocolate chip pieces) and the ‘420-Munchie’ that has everything on it; but now, the new Westchester menu features delectable golden fried chicken. You no longer need to choose between salty and sweet.
Ranked on The Food Network, Yahoo, Trip Advisor and Yelp among others, as one of the country’s top doughnut shops, Mojo Donuts will be the first nationally ranked doughnut shop in the heart of Miami.
What were you like growing up?
I was always a curious kid. Loved to play sports and get into all sorts of trouble. I made friends quickly and I looked up to my big brother; to me he was everything. My mom and dad were literally my heroes. They worked hard so the whole family could be ok. As a kid, we came from humble beginnings and nothing was given in excess.
