Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Gobin.
Veronica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Having been a real- estate agent for over 15 years, I have seen my share of beautiful and unique properties throughout Miami. One day a client, looking for development property, and I stumbled upon this unique location. Cauley Square took us both by surprise and we fell in love with it as we saw it’s beauty and potential.
At the time Cauley Square was in disarray and my client took the gamble of purchasing the property with the goal to restore this historic property. A few years later I purchased the Tea Room with a vision in mind, to bring traditional tea from around the world to South Florida.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any journey worth taking, this road has had numerous challenges. The biggest challenge being, the location. We have struggled the last few years to have patrons venture to this village. After Hurricane Andrew, Cauley Square sustained catastrophic damages.
The last 20 years after Hurricane Andrew we have made numerous efforts to raise awareness to locals in the area to inform them that although we were damaged, we were not destroyed. We worked tirelessly to increase awareness through conventional marketing efforts, but with the development of social media, we have more recently seen an increase in local support as we have become a “hidden gem” in South Florida.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a family-owned and operated tea house. Our vision is to bring the traditional tea experience to guests of all ages and walks of life. We want our guests to enjoy our fresh, home-made meals to warm your stomach and warm cup of teas to warm your soul. We take pride in using authentic and vintage pieces in our service and restaurant to bring to life themes from each room and to give each guest as authentic a tea experience we can, with our own spin.
We are proud of our ability to cater to not just the tea-enthusiasts but to their family and friends who enjoy a delicious, hearty breakfast or lunch. As of late, we have become more known for our private events, especially our baby and bridal showers. What sets us apart from other places is how Cauley Square transports you to another time. We use this to our advantage as it helps us let our guests feel like they are in another time and place, to get away from the busy, crazy Miami life.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami is such an eclectic city with such a diverse population that it allows different businesses to thrive. In order to succeed in Miami, it requires planning, vision, passion and most importantly capital. For more success, I would suggest for our city to improve public transportation and provide more support of local small businesses.
