Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Ocampo.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love for sports. I started on the sidelines as a Miami Dolphins Cheerleader and got my degree in broadcasting. I got my lucky break as a serious sports broadcaster with the NHL Florida Panthers. I was with the team for 4 seasons. I was able to not only hone my craft as a reporter but it gave me a chance to learn how to be a producer, write and they gave me the position as Hispanic Marketing director my 4th season.
Throughout those years, I worked for many tv outlets like CNN, Univison, and CBS Sports. I was very lucky because at this time I was becoming a household name in South Florida and started amplifying my voice by co-writing and Amazon Best Seller “Lead With Success”. I learned how to build my brand in the industry and was speaking at conferences and universities on how you could do the same. Shortly after, I got hired by the WWE to be a broadcaster where I traveled the world and became internationally known. After being with that company I was ready to launch my creative consulting agency, Social Sided Media where I helped people launch their own brands. Briefly after that I I met my current business partner, Lizzy Molina, where we decided to combine our experience in sports and launched, creative consulting agency Thrown Media.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey had its ups and downs. Having been in the sports entertainment industry for many years working with heavy hitters like CNN En Espanol, Walt Disney, NHL, NFL, US Open and more the biggest challenge and greatest blessing was my contract with the WWE didn’t get renewed which at the moment was a trying time because I thought this was my ultimate goal. Little did I know that would springboard me to launch my own company and take my personal and career autonomy into my own hands and follow my instincts.
Looking back, I remember feeling like I had failed myself and family. Nobody likes to hear “No”. I knew I didn’t want to ever be at the mercy of a corporation, or have my destiny be in someone else’s hands. I turned that into the biggest opportunity of my life. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t a smooth transition into the world of entrepreneurship. I hit my head many times and people didn’t get my vision at first but I never wavered.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a partner at Thrown Media, which is a brand consulting agency helping brands and athletes become powerhouses in their industry. With a focus on sports marketing my business partner Lizzy and I elevate brands to their highest potential.
I use my experience as an on camera talent, tv producer, writer and marketing executive to help others create a brand that they can be proud of and I like to lead by example.
I still do on-cameracamera hosting, where you can catch me on the Fox Business News Network where I produce and host an environment tv show called, “Earth”. Most recently I’m proud to announce that I’ve joined BOLD TV as the creator and producer of “Business Life Hacks”, a digital show where I focus on the entrepreneur and simple steps to help you crush your goals. I love, love to help and teach others.
Thrown Media will be launching an e-course coming out very soon called “The Playbook”, where we teach people how to become a brand. We take them behind the scenes to our meetings, dealings and lessons. Our creative consulting agency is very different fromthe agencies out there. We do content and business models like no other agency. We’re proud to say that we are the 0.1% of creative agencies founded by women.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being relentless and never taking the easy route. I never compromised my value system nor took “no” for an answer. Even if it meant going back to square one I knew that if I wanted to be a leader in my industry I would have to face adversity. My faith in myself and helping those around me is my “why”. I can never lose knowing that I’m helping others.
