Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Salokar.
Eva, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I actually attended Travel School in Ohio in 1983 and didn’t pursue my love for the field as I moved to Florida and went into the Administrative field. I then decided to take a Travel class in 2012 and was offered a part-time outside agent position by my teacher’s agency. I felt like this was my retirement job and loved every minute!
In 2013 they hired me on as a full-time agent in the office and since then I have grown my business substantially. I found my love in listening to what my clients want to do and creating a memorable trip they will cherish forever. I have also found my love for Alaska and have explored the state in depth as well as obtaining several Alaska specialist certificates.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, my journey in the travel business has been quite a journey. Smooth at times and trying others, but every day is a new learning experience as this is an ever-changing industry. I have to continuously keep learning as there is something new each day.
Please tell us about Boca Express Travel.
Boca Express Travel/American Express is a family owned agency and when you walk into our office we make you feel like part of the family. They have been in the same location for over 28 years and the business is thriving!
What sets us apart is: since we are representatives of American Express, we are able to offer our customers the benefits of American Express. Our clients can use their Membership Reward Points to travel. We are a full-service agency and work as a team to ensure our clients are well taken care of. We have a tremendous amount of repeat clients and referrals from them.
As I stated in a previous question, I am the Alaska Specialist and take trips all over Alaska to learn about that wonderful state! I have currently applied for the Alaska Insider program with American Express and am waiting to hear if I get picked. If that happens, it will drive all Alaska inquiries from American Express to me at Boca Express Travel. Most of us in the office specializes in a specific area which makes us experts in several places around the world. We have over 200 years experience between all of us and if my client asks about a specific country chances are someone in our office has been there and can give first-hand information.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started my travel career right out of high school and saved my money because traveling is expensive!
