Today we’d like to introduce you to Jo Ann Penkalski.
Jo Ann, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After working in accounting and finance for over 20 years I decided it was time for a change. I was tired of sitting in front of a computer all day and wanted to do something that I enjoyed. I started with just a website that sold girls clothing, After a couple of years, I realized that getting customers to find you on the internet was harder than I thought. That is when I decided to open a store. In March 2016, I left my job and opened JoBella Girls Boutique. We have now been open about one and half years and we get new customers in every day.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being new to retail, it has taken me some time to get accustomed to the ups and downs of retail. The holiday season, as well as the spring, is our busiest time. But even in the slow months we still get new customers every day.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JoBella Girls Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a girls boutique which sells everything from clothing, shoes, gifts, and toys. We have items for girls from infant to size 16. We have even begun to carry clothing and gifts for boys. Because we want shopping to be fun for our customers, we also offer a lot of fun activities in store. Girls can come into our store and make their own tutu, lip gloss, and sugar scrub bath scrub.
We also have events in our store several times a year. You can usually spot a Princess at our events, or we might have games or other fun activities. We provide free gift wrapping for all purchases and our customers love our unique wrapping and handmade tulle bows.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Of course you hear every day that shopping is moving to online purchases, however, we find that our customers like being able to come into a small shop and touch and feel the clothing. Plus you cannot beat the customer service you get at JoBella Girls Boutique.
