Meet Trenton Greene of Velofix Mobile Bike Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trenton Greene.

Trenton, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been an avid cyclist since high school. Once I moved to college at FSU, my love for bikes really took off. I co-founded the FSU Cycling Team and started racing bicycles. I also got my first job in the bicycle industry at a local store. I worked there through college.

Once I graduated I moved to Colorado and worked at a bike/ski shop for 2 years. I then moved back to Florida to be a sales rep throughout the state for a number of different cycling brands. I grew tired of the amount of driving being a rep required, so I got a job at company in South Florida with multiple retail locations.

I worked for them for 9+ years, but I always had aspirations of having my own cycling related company. I partnered up with a good friend of mine, and we purchased the South Florida territory for Velofix. It is a full-service mobile bike shop. We do everything from basic tune-ups, to full frame up overhauls, and custom builds.

A regular day can have me changing tires on a beach cruiser to wiring an electronic shifting $20,000 race bike. I really see the mobile model as the future of service based businesses as more people are buying online now. No one has time to bother bringing their bikes to the shop, then waiting days for it to be done, then going back to pick it up. It’s much more convenient to just book an appointment online, then we come and have it done in a couple of hours.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part was just letting people know about us and how we work. This is a business that hasn’t existed before, so no one was searching for a mobile shop. We’re at the point now where people are getting to know the idea. More and more people are actually searching for a mobile shop. Even still, it’s hard for everyone to grasp the fact that we work around their schedule. People are used to having to work around a shops schedule. We start at 7 in the morning and go to 9 at night, so we can service bikes before and after work as well.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I don’t think I can narrow it down to one moment. I always love seeing a random person enjoying a bike I sold them years ago. It’s crazy to think about the thousands of bikes I have sold/serviced in South Florida that have helped people get healthier and have more fun.
