Today we’d like to introduce you to Caro Tejada.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started with an opportunity to compete at a business talent show in July of 2020. I was encouraged to participate by explaining my concept in a way that judges would understand in a short period of time. My concept won first place.
Timeline:
In 2011, a painting of mine led me to conduct a marketing research. This marketing research became an art project that promotes mental health awareness. Today, my project is the MÁS grant award recipient. The MÁS is a program created by the Jorge M. Pérez Foundation to recognize Miami Dade’s outstanding artists for their contributions to the vitality of Miami’s cultural life.
Back in 2015, I created a lifestyle brand: CAROHTBR with the idea of incorporating elements of my original artwork into designs.
Business concept: I brought my two separate projects together. A portion of the proceeds of my lifestyle brand: CAROHTBR is reinvested in the community through my mental health advocacy art project: Hope the Blue Robot.
At the beginning of 2021, I was offered the opportunity to host my very first art show: “Paint Like the Poets” that took place at the Lincoln Eatery in South Beach. Soon after, I was so happy to get representation from the online gallery (Collective Art Online):
https://collectiveart.online/collections/caro-tejada, where my paintings are available for purchase. Nationwide has also sponsored my designs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. My mental health has been challenging at times. But I have always kept my head up learning that although we can’t direct the wind; we can always adjust the sails. My own struggles have been a great catalyst for meaningful growth on a personal and artistic level. My art allows me to keep exploring new avenues for understanding the depths of mental health and its impact in the community as a whole. I know I am unto something special with my program, and I am taking the necessary steps so that it reaches its full potential. I am thankful for all the doors that keep opening up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist and causepreneur. My advocacy, via my abstract paintings, my art program, and my designs open conversations about mental health awareness with a focus on the idea of HOPE. What is HOPE? If not a school of thought that can be taught and reinforced? This is what my work is about. My current project involves a study of a control group. This study will lead to very exciting outcomes. I can’t say much more at this time, but stay tuned! My project is also collaborative. I encourage anybody who can relate and identify with our mission to reach out.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes! I loved these books: The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene, Triggers by Marshall Goldsmith, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, The Achievement Habit by Bernard Roth.
