Meet Barbara Rusciano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Rusciano.

Barbara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I bought my first DSLR in 2011. I never had any formal education in photography, so I just focused on reading everything I could find regarding exposure and composition. I joined some photography groups and went all in. It took me a while before I started photographing others to build my portfolio and even longer before I started charging for sessions. It wasn’t until 2019 that I decided to learn studio photography. I fell in love with it and never looked back.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not always. We tend to be our worst critics and that is definitely one of the biggest hurdles to get over, but also one of the things that push me the most.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in portraits. I love capturing people and their real emotions. I am not a fan of cheesy smiles and forced poses. I also love editing, playing with light and shadows. I most known for my studio portraits. I like creating art that is timeless and will be admired and cherished by many generations to come. I like creating art that my clients will want to display in their homes.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I went to business school and never thought I’d leave the corporate world behind and become an artist. I never saw myself that way. Now I can’t see myself any other way. I have found my true passion and can’t imagine life without photography.
