Meet Delisa Cunningham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delisa Cunningham.

Hi Delisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I feel my story is funny because throughout most of my young adult life I never wore make up or even wore lipstick. I wore my hair in the same relaxed straight style for over 25 years. I was always a “plane Jane” and I was totally ok with that. Then I remember when I turned 30 years old my mom told me, “Ok Delisa your 30 now. It’s time for you to start wearing some lipstick.” My obsession for all things beauty started then and there. I became obsessed with trying different lipsticks then that spiraled into learning how to apply foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. I also started transitioning from relaxed to natural about this time, so then of course I became obsessed with trying different natural hair products and different hairstyles. Now, I consider myself a beauty enthusiast. I started making YouTube videos showcasing different hair styles for natural hair and easy to do make up looks and then grew into creating content for Instagram and even Tik Tok. I’m no professional by any means, but I think that’s what my audience enjoys about my content. I’m relatable. Instead of creating content on how to do cut crease eyeshadow looks and overly contour, I’m showing my audience convenient everyday beauty looks and how to manage your and be confident in your natural tresses.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a content creator while having a full time 9-5 corporate job has not been easy. Putting time into your passion after working 50 hours a week to pay the bills can sometimes be exhausting. This makes it tough to consistently put out content. Especially for someone like me who is trying to grow their following organically it takes a lot of planning and time to stay consistent. I try not to put too much pressure on myself to keep up with the next content creator/influencer. It’s a natural feeling to want to keep up, but I just remember to have fun and focus on the quality of my content.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known more for my product reviews. See I have a little bit of a spending problem lol. I love buying and trying new beauty products, beauty hacks, and hairstyles that are easy to do. Those ads that you always see on Instagram or Facebook, I’m your guinea pig that will buy those products and do the review so you know whether you need to spend your money or not. I think what sets me apart from other influencers and content creators is that I always show my true self. I’m quirky, goofy, and very cool calm and collected. That’s always been my personality. I feel I give my audience a little balance from some of their other favorite over the top content creators with big personalities. Not there is anything wrong with those characteristics. Again I just feel I provide that balance.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
This may come to a surprise to a lot of people, but my favorite childhood memory is singing. I was in choirs and advance choruses from 5th grade all the way through my senior year of high school when I was the President of my high school’s advance chorus class. I could intermediately read music and competed in competitions in Florida and Georgia with my school. It was my absolute favorite thing about going to school every day. Unfortunately I am also a prime example of if you don’t use it you lose it. Now I can still hold a nice tune if I really tried, but my vocal ability has decreased substantially lol.
