Check Out Tequisha Myles’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tequisha Myles.

Hi Tequisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to become a lawyer after studying about US Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall when I was in elementary school. I wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a pioneering civil rights attorney. I attended the University of South Florida and obtained my BA in Political Science. After graduating from college, I attended Florida State University College of Law. I began my legal career at Florida Rural Legal Services. I represented clients in landlord tenant, unemployment and public benefits cases. After three years at Florida Rural Legal Services, I joined Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. I serve as the Supervising Attorney of the Elder Law, Fair Housing and Consumer Law Projects. My staff and I work tirelessly to protect the rights of individuals and families in Palm Beach County.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you are passionate about your work, there’s nothing too difficult to overcome. The financial impact of COVID-19 on tenants and the eviction process has made this part of my career path the most challenging. I have worked tirelessly this last year to find thoughtful and creative solutions for our clients and while it’s been difficult, it has been immensely rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been practicing law since 2003. My favorite part of the practice of law is my role as a problem solver. My clients are facing serious issues like eviction, garnishment, housing discrimination and financial exploitation.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think that you have to be an empathetic and altruistic person to work in public interest law and not burnt out. I get joy in helping others.
