Rising Stars: Meet Zeke Man from Zeke’s Music Exchange

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeke Man

Hi Zeke, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve played music ever since I was a kid. Started out playing an old classical guitar my father had for many years. Soon I was taking lessons and putting my first band together at the age of 14. Life brought me and my family to Miami, and I’m proud to call it home and being part of the local music scene. I’ve played in lots of venues around town with so many different people, for almost the 20 years I have been part of the scene. Because of this is that I was able to start the Music Exchange. Word of mouth had people calling me about fixing their guitars, amps, etc. so I would post a picture of the finished job on social media, next thing I know I’m starting a new business that allowed me to reinvent myself in these difficult times. I feel I’m still part of the music scene but now from a different position. Today the shop is growing and I see there’s a need for what I’m doing. Which is helping musicians and their instruments sound their best.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, I think I can say it never is a smooth road, though we all want that. There’s always some struggle when starting a new business. What I think did make a big difference was the fact that due to Covid-19 I lost my job last year. So the challenge was and still is a little tougher. Going from a more or less steady income to actually having to invest a little in a new venture is risky and never smooth. But I feel thankful I’m still being able to do what I love and do something new.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician who’s played for many years in Miami. Throughout time I always fixed my own instruments and equipment. I think what’s unique about me and what I’m doing now is the fact that when guitar players approach me, I know exactly what they are talking about and need. My experience as a working musician turned guitar tech is vast and I think being honest and treat people the way I like to be treated are keys to success. I feel grateful to be able to share my experience and knowledge with artists. The one thing this job and my career in music taught me for sure is to be humble and always keep working hard and learning. I wish I could share all that with more people.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
So many people have helped get the Music Exchange going. I don’t want to forget anybody but obviously my wife and kids who of course are always supportive. My old and dear friend Chocolate who along with our friend Alex gave me a space to be able to work. Everybody who’s been supporting and donating, friends, clients, bandmates, etc. Lots of new people I’ve met and helped me gain confidence in myself and my venture. Every day I give thanks for what I have because it makes me and others happy.
