Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatianah Green.
Hi Tatianah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey as a small business owner in the decor space came from a love for both photography and fashion. Growing up, I would make a hobby out of taking photos and preserving those memories in frames, scrapbooks, and photo albums. Nowadays, with our photos stored primarily on our phones or in a digital format, I thought about how I could create something unique to bring back displaying print photos. I wanted to create photo frames with fabric, starting with African textiles and prints, so I tried it out and then launched my business through Etsy in April 2018. Since then, I’ve been able to expand my business offerings to collage letters and other accessories for the frames. It has been a pleasure to create pieces that have reached people’s homes all over the world, from California to Switzerland.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Often times, small business owners are encouraged to “just start” even though everything is not perfect. That was definitely my story! You’re going to make some mistakes, but you should aim for progress along the way. There is most likely a market for what you have to offer; get out of your head and get into your craft. Since the business launch, I have improved my design techniques and it shows through my reviews and repeat business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in made-to-order, fabric-covered photo frames. My frames are for people who want to take their home decor to the next level, add a unique piece to the background of their vlogs, or give a thoughtful gift. Photo frames have made a comeback over the years and I haven’t seen any frames like mine. The patterns and materials add a special touch and texture to anyone’s home, office, or event. Ultimately, I want my costumer’s unique taste reflected in their frames or other pieces from the Notes By Tatianah shop.
One of my favorite memories so far from operating this business was fulfilling a special custom order. The customer mailed me several neckties to use for miniature frames to give as gifts to their family for Christmas. The neckties belonged to their late relative, so they wanted a creative way to preserve his memory. It was both an honor and a creative challenge to turn these ties into commemorative frames, but they turned out beautifully. Here’s what that customer shared in a review on my shop’s page: “It is a true honor to leave this review. My family and I could NOT be happier with the service and frames from Tatianah!! Our request was a custom order that involved very personal family items. Tatianah handled everything amazingly well and it was the hit of our family Christmas.”
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the interior design industry, I’ve noticed a trend of people doing more with their wall decor by incorporating framing. One example is setting up gallery walls with multiple frames and other mounted decor. Frames are perfect as wall decor in the office as well. I believe we will see a shift in focus to home office spaces since more people have been working from home than ever. This shift will influence people to put more effort into their workspaces at home, and decor is no exception. If you’re going to be spending most of your day there, why not make your working environment into something you like and want to work in? This is where intentional and efficient decorating comes into play. Frames can hold photos, quotes, verses, scriptures, affirmations, artwork, and so much more. The frames that I offer reflect modern trends and traditional tastes while adding warmth to my customers’ spaces.
