Meet Robert Roscioli of Roscioli Yachting Center in Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Roscioli.

Bob started his career in the marine industry as an apprentice in 1962. Within a year’s time, he began to develop the painting technique that would launch his world-renowned marine companies, Donzi by Roscioli International, Inc. and the Roscioli Yachting Center, Inc. Today, he applies his vast experience, technical knowledge and unparalleled standard of excellence into all facets of custom yacht building and yacht maintenance. Bob sets the benchmark for quality. He personally checks each project, step-by-step, to ensure that only the highest standard of quality and craftsmanship is maintained or surpassed.

His best achievement was building his business from an old station wagon with four paint brushes, then becoming well known around the world as one of the best brush spray painters on mega yachts. Their clients come into the office and spend as little as $10,000 to $5 million dollars, depending on their wishes and what repairs are to be done on their yachts. There is a special bond between owners and their yachts. They want to look and feel like they have been successful in their careers to own these yachts for themselves, friends and their families. A lot of clients will spare no expense to have the best.

Lastly, his best accomplishment was marrying his wife Sharon 47 years ago. She has played an enormous role in the success of Roscioli Yachting Center.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was rocky throughout my 54 year career. Struggles from trying to build a great reputation and becoming one of the best yacht painters in the world.

During the early years, I worked throughout the holidays with no time off while raising my family. I had to personally do the work, including collections while dealing with the wealthiest clients in the world. I did an awful lot for a small amount of money. As we became more successful, I could go to the bank asking for a $3 million dollar loan with no collateral, convincing them I would pay them back. Guess what? They believed me. You can’t do that in today’s world. What sets us apart from a lot of companies is the way I micro manage everyone that works for Roscioli Yachting Center and Donzi (Roscioli International), which we own.

When I say micro-manage, it consists of quality control on all projects such as cleanliness of our projects and shipyard, which is our trademark. The ability to hire workers that have the longevity of 35, 28, 20 and 15 years, we take care of our people that care of our company, which is why they have been employed for so many years. No one gets fired from Roscioli Yachting Center. If someone does gets fired, they fired themselves. I run my company like a well-oiled sports team. I believe in teamwork and discipline to be successful.

We are proud of our reputation which is paramount to my legacy that took years to develop. Our name and reputation is known throughout the yachting industry and around the world. I’m extremely proud of my staff. It is worth more to us than the financial awards.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was an introverted young man, raised by a single mother with only a high school education, but I had the inner desire to succeed no matter what I had to accomplish from playing “King of the Hill” on the streets of Philadelphia, competitive rowing and a life guard in South Jersey. I excelled in three sports during high school (football, track and wrestling. I focused on karate receiving my black belt in three years and two months.
