Meet Elan Savir of ELAN and SEN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elan Savir.

Elan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started the ELAN brand in 1990 when I was 20 years old right out of my Garage, I would basically buy fabric and have it cut and sewed into edgy club dresses which I would then sell to different beach stores and boutiques. Soon thereafter the line started evolving to focus more on beach and resort clothing to accommodate our beachwear clientele at the time, we continued along this path for many years and did quite well while the company was growing and building its name.

In 2001 I took on a new partner and we decided to expand our line in order to generate more businesses in the winter months since previously we were mostly focused on summer. This was probably the best move we could have made since it opened up a world of new doors for us and those same doors expanded our summer business as well. We started that by focusing on sweaters and soon made a name for ourselves in that arena.

Today we are a full year-round fashion Brand that produces 4 full seasons Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter plus we have a separate resort line that is available year round. Currently, we employ over 150 people here in our Factory/ HQ in Miami and we are one of the few companies left who design, cut and sew all under one roof, while 50 % of everything we make is produced right here the USA. We are proud to be sold in boutiques worldwide and featured in stores such as Nordstroms, Bloomingdales, Dillards, Everything But water, Diane’s and many others.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it’s not been smooth, it never is, everything is constantly changing and whether you are doing or doing bad you must constantly change and evolve, we have had more than our share of ups and downs and still do, but we have been fortunate to have such amazing people working with us and a core of loyal clients.

Change is always difficult and is always met with resistance I would say that has been our biggest challenge, aside from the obvious challenge of this industry which is the constant pressure of always out doing ourselves and coming out with a line product that performs in the stores.

ELAN and we also have SEN – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So our company has many different components since we are also a factory and not just design and sales like most, we also do allot of private label business where it’s our product but not under our brand or custom made items.

My main role has always been designing and sales however my wife Galit has stepped into the design role and it’s something we have been doing together over the last 10 years. Today, we have also included a full-time designer who is very talented and has been a real asset his name is John Schumann, so the design process is more of team effort these days. I am also involved in the sales process but more as an assist to our sales team and I do attend all major trade shows. If I had to pick one thing I specialize in I would say its people, and relationships whether with clients or more importantly the relationship with the people I work with. I have always been fortunate to have good people around me.

I am very proud of the fact that we were able to stay in business for almost 27 years while marinating a family environment. I think what sets us apart from others is a great quality product that makes our customers look and feel great yet it is reasonably priced. I would also say that our customer service and relationships with our clients.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have had many, I still get a kick out seeing someone wearing something we make, I was very proud the first time we had our own little section in Nordstroms or being featured in the mailer catalog. But I must say I am most proud of the fact that we as a company with help of some amazing people were able to turn the company around and reinvent ourselves more than once when things looked like they were taking a turn for the worst.
