Meet Celisse Craig

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celisse Craig.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, I always wanted to start a business, but just didn’t know what I wanted to do. So, on July 17, 2019, while on the phone with my best friend, I told her I am going to start an online clothing boutique. I got online to sun biz and paid for my business to be incorporated. Being that I didn’t know anything about the clothing business. I started googling things on how to start an online boutique and I went from there. Honestly, I just started looking at other clothing boutiques to see what they were doing and what clothes seemed to be popular.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I would definitely say it has not been a smooth road. There some months where I would go without having any sales. Me wanting to quit and give up. Trying to build up a follower base. Also, financially not being able to fund the business to be able to buy more inventory and banks deny me for loans and credit. I must say this dirt year in business has definitely been a challenge. A great challenge, I must say. I look back from when I first started my business and to now and must say it has a different look. I am still looking for ways to better Tajae’s Boutique.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed practical nurse for seven years. I am currently a nurse supervisor at a nursing home for pediatric children. I would have to say my proudest accomplishment was becoming a nurse, it was a life long dream since I was a little girl even though the road has not been easy. I became a mom at the age of 15. I had people say oh she is not going to graduate or be anything. That stuck with me, and pushed me to prove all the nay sayers wrong. I graduated and didn’t allow the negativity to consume me. I came out on top.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I would definitely say you must have a strong support system. I definitely think finding a mentor is a good thing. However, I don’t have one at the moment. Mentors can give great advice and guidance and be a great help. I would say what has worked well for me is promoting your business as much as possible. Even when no one likes your post, share your post. Keep posting because, trust me, someone is watching.
