Life & Work with Christopher Diaz

Hi Christopher, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Miami, Florida. Went to G. Holmes Braddock Senior High, won the Novice State Championship in Humorous Interpretation, went to a leadership Academy representing the top cadets in my school, and graduated number 1 in the state of Florida; Company Commander. Senior year I competed and the national championship at the Blue Key National Tournament at the University of Florida. Had a brief stint Santa Fe college in Gainesville before I transferred to New World School of the Arts here in Downtown Miami.

After that, went right into featured roles on Telemundo on various shows, including Relaciones Peligrosas, Corazón Valiente, Santa Diabla, and more. Transitioned into the American market with various independent films like Man in the Mirror, Undead Apocalypse, Renaissance, and various others before getting Union eligibility on the set of Oleander, which was based on a true story. Shortly after that, I was offered the role on ATL Homicide as the lead, play real-life detective Vince Velásquez; played that role for three seasons now. Between off time on that show I received the role of Juancho on Project Greenlight’s show, Grown, which aired on Complex, and was financed by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s production company.

Throughout that time, I’ve worked consistently as a voice actor at The Kitchen Miami, a Dubbing/VO studio in Downtown Miami, voicing shows like PBS’s Daniel Tigers neighborhood, Maid in Manhattan, various cartoons, and all telenovelas that go through there. I was the voice for AT&T commercials on the radio for a year. I recently produced a series titled Motel Gravy, which has won Best of Fest at RIFF, Jellyfest, and many other awards at festivals. Currently, I’m producing six shows for ENTVUSA at a studio lot (Cachita Universal Studios) where we’re streaming on Roku Tv, Tubox, Amazon Fire, and all social media platforms. I have recently started producing commercials for Agency WOW MKTG. as well as hosting and producing pilot for new docuseries “305.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been fortunate enough to have gotten great feedback and support throughout my life, especially from my family and fiancée. I have met struggles/obstacles with a positive attitude and taken them all as a learning experience to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an actor/voice talent, as well as Producer I bring characters from concept to creation, basing my characters off of the creator’s vision. Love creating, as well as helping bring someone to life on screen. I’m most know for my role as Vince Velasquez on ATL Homicide (3 Seasons). I also love working on different voices. Just wrapped on an animated feature that will have a theatrical release in the US called Boboiboy. I strongly believe in the preparation for each project, to know the ins and outs of everything within the world.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe the biggest risk I’ve take this far on screen has to be playing the role of a real person, while they are still living. It’s no easy task to step on the shoes of a real life hero/detective, and wonder if I’ve fulfilled the position. Not having any police/homicide detective training, I dove into courses merely establishing a foundation for criminal justice, and a vague realization of given circumstances when dealing with corpses laying right in front of you. Thankfully, the detective I portrayed received my work with sheer praise.
