Dr. Gropper, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Former aerospace engineer at General Dynamics Corporation turned physician. I earned my MD and residency and fellowship training at Emory University for Interventional Radiology, which is a radiologist that is trained in doing a wide variety of minimally invasive procedures. I moved to Florida after finishing training, working in Sarasota and Naples before settling in Miami in 2005. Seven years ago I became interested in laser technology and application to facial aesthetics. Along with my wife Kari, who is a medical aesthetician, we developed Vivid Face.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not. Getting the word out and educating people about the advantages of a laser facial has been a serious challenge. There is a lot of competition in the skincare space, especially big corporate entities selling products, and those marketing messages are everywhere. As a small startup, it has been difficult to reach our target audience. However, when we do get people to try our facial they love it. We started offering memberships a little over 3 years ago, and those original clients are still with us. Another challenge was being able to afford the most current laser equipment. We have 8 lasers at our office and they do some amazing things
Please tell us about Vivid Face.
Vivid Face is meant to be a new twist on skincare and turns the med spa concept upside down. We perform laser facials that address the 3 primary concerns of the aging face: pigmentation (sun damage), prominent pores/fine lines leading to an older appearing skin texture, and skin laxity or sagging. We don’t do massages, relaxation facials with smelly products, aromatherapy, foot massages, hair & nails or any of that stuff. We are not a traditional doctors office with long waits and high prices. We do laser facials – that is our expertise. For busy people that are serious about fast, no downtime, effective skincare, Vivid Face is the right place. Only a laser can stimulate collagen and elastin, allowing the skin to restore its own youthful glow and texture from within, products simply can’t penetrate deep enough to do it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Would have to be days spent deep sea fishing with my dad at the Jersey shore.
