Meet Mark Demidovich of South Florida Conservatory of Music in Downtown Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Demidovich.

Mark, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started studying piano at seven years old in a small town called Kostroma in Russia. My journey began at a music school where I was studying music theory and music history in addition to piano lessons for eight years. The biggest inspiration for me was going to classical music concerts in our city philharmonic hall, especially solo piano recitals. I remember having goosebumps listening to musicians play music by Bach, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and other genius composers.

After school, I studied in a music college for four more years and at a conservatory for another five years, where I started teaching. I came to the United States in 2011 to continue my education at The Long Island Conservatory of Music, where I got my Artist Diploma and worked as a piano teacher for 4 years, and The Juilliard School in New York City, one of the world’s leading music schools. I won many international music competitions, performed numerous solo recitals, and appeared as a guest soloist with orchestras in Russia, Bulgaria, Sweden and the U.S. in venues included the White House, Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Lincoln Center. I am very grateful to my teachers: Irina Petrova, Albert Tarakanov, and Tamara Poddubnaya for not only teaching me to play piano but also for being my life mentors.

From the moment I started teaching, it was always my dream to have my own music school. I wanted to have an impact on as many people as possible, to bring music into their lives, and having my own school allows me to do that. My dream came true in October of 2018 when I opened South Florida Conservatory of Music.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges was finding the right place. We looked at dozens of properties before we chose our location. Then it was the learning curve of actually running the business part of the school. Artists usually are not good business people, and I am so grateful to my wife, Jessica, who helped me with the fundamentals of running one.
