Today we’d like to introduce you to Kesselin Goman.
Kesselin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Also known as “Camp KC” I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I’m 22 years old and I use to live in the dangerous neighborhood of “Little Haiti” which is probably one of the highest crime rate parts of Miami. I grew with both of my parents living with each other and thankful to them, I never got caught up into the wrong crowd because they wanted better for me. I also lived with my older sister and my grandfather in the house as well. So while growing up in a dangerous neighborhood and moving into a more quiet environment in Miami Gardens, there was still trials and tribulations I had to go through to able to be who I am today.
While going through a lot of trials and tribulations such as, me playing basketball from the 5th grade and quitting in the 10th grade of high school and also to me dropping out of college two years ago, I felt stuck in a trap of not knowing where to go in my life but luckily I was blessed with a creative mind and inspired by plenty to find a new path in my life by doing youtube and rapping. In a city where it’s so easy to get caught up in the wrong crowd, I stayed true to myself and in every room I walk in, I made a promise to always be me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road due to the fact that I had some doubt in my abilities at times and the slow process of not gaining enough attention would be sometimes frustrating but during this process, I became in love with the process because I truly believe in my abilities as a YouTuber and rapper. I came to an understanding that this process isn’t going to happen overnight and I still have time and as long as I continue, everything else will work itself out. At moments I would go months without uploading due to the fact I felt like my content wasn’t good enough but now I’m easily making the best content possible and I’m truly proud of it.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Well, I started my youtube channel “Camp KC” just about three years ago by reacting and reviewing music for entertainment. It was always a dream of mine to start a youtube channel since I was probably ten years old and I wanted to at least start a foundation for myself as a whole so I can build upon that and head into different fields such as my music career that I started just about five months ago. Rapping has always been a fun thing I always use to do since I was seven and it was always something I kept in my mind that I’ll start one day and I felt like it’s no better time than right now to get it going. With me being 22 years of age with all the ideas I have, I felt like it’s best that I put my energy into my dreams as of now before I reach an age that I am ashamed of myself that I didn’t.
Some of my biggest accomplishments are that I have over 400 subscribers on my Youtube channel with 12 videos over 1,000 views and my most popular videos are my Lucky Daye videos that has gotten the attention of his Grammy award-winning producer D’Mile. And I have released seven songs and six of them have over 100 listens and my most popular song has 553 listens on SoundCloud. And what sets me apart is me wanting to give top quality content to the best of my ability to be spending two days editing a video or to me waiting two weeks to a month to drop a song to make sure my vocals are right and my cover art is presentable for others to see. The best thing I ever done was the “Camp KC bonfire phase 1” it was easily the most important and expensive thing I have ever done and I am truly proud of how it came out.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The people that deserve the most credit are my friends Jordan, Roderick, and Jovani. They constantly critique me on my music and videos to help me improve. To me having to change some verses, getting rid of some songs, switching hooks, fixing my editing on certain videos to make it cleaner, and what albums/singles I should react to there constantly trying to push me to be better than who I am and I couldn’t ask for a better group friends to always tell me the truth if they like something or not.
