Today we’d like to introduce you to Keymah Reneé.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Keymah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started singing around the age of 3 or 4. Can’t remember what age but I remember being on stage for a pageant, in front of a large crowd. I was shy so nothing came out at first, but my mom was right there in the middle of the crowd singing the lyrics to the Song “Me and My Teddy” from The show “Barney.” Then I got into it and from there, everyone knew I was meant to be a star. I started writing my own songs when I got to middle school. My life has never been ideal. So I had a lot to write about.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road for me has been long and rocky. I could write a book with all the tragic details. My innocence was stolen from me at a really young age. I grew up up in a domestic violence home. I bounced around foster home to foster home. After my mom got custody of me and my brothers, we moved around almost every year. So I never had any real stability in my life. My first major loss was In 6th grade, I lost my cousin. In 7th grade, I was raped and also lost my Dad after only knowing him for a short period of time. A year later, I lost my great uncle. Not too long after that, my stepmom committed suicide. The list goes on. I also think these things contributed to my anxiety issues now. On top of personal issues, financial issues and whatever other issues, there’s life. Instead of victimizing myself though, I feel like these details make for a juicier story and almost perfect ending.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a rising r&b songstress/songwriter. I travel and perform but most of the time, I’m right here putting on a show for the crib. In the city, I’m mostly known for my affiliation with IMG StrongArm and a feature I did in 2018 with Baby Soulja and JT from the City Girls called “Young And Wild.” Considering my background, I’m most proud of my growth as a young black woman and as an artist in general. I’ve been at the bottom and overcame. I beat the odds and still fighting To this day. Even though I grew up wanting to live like Hannah Montana, I never imagined that it would happen like this.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Humbleness, Work ethic and personality are key to success in the music industry. I also feel as if selfishness is important too. You have to be selfish with your time, space and energy in this industry. Time is something you can never get back and if you really want to succeed in anything, it takes 10,000 hours plus. Therefore I can’t afford to waste my time or energy on anything that isn’t beneficial to my growth. So Good Vibes Only This way Because I’m on a mission.
