Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Dady Phatts.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been Djing since the age of 21-night clubs strip clubs, weddings, private events, you name I’ve done it. I got into radio at the age of 25 and never looked back. I am A former Dj and On-air personality of X 102.3, a former Hip-Hop station in West Palm Beach and in my time there, I helped create a transcending show called Local Love that forever changed my life and help many independent artists in South Florida.
I was also blessed to help launch Beatz 96.3, another former hip-hop station in West Palm Beach, where I had the amazing opportunity of holding down the afternoon drive. Currently, I have taken my talents to the Independent scene by creating my own app and an online station called Tru Radio. Tru Radio is my baby; we play hip-hop rnb reggae and afro beats but we are very independent, friendly and community-driven. The goal with Tru Radio is to be a Black-owned radio station that levels the playing field with corporate radio and gives local home-grown talent from DJs personalities and artists a home to create and win.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Wow, it has been a crazy ride, I would say, for the most part, just being under-appreciated and not being given a fair chance just because of the color of your skin.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tru Radio story. Tell us more about your work.
Tru Radio is a black-owned radio station that is driven to help spread and persevere the culture. We play hip-hop rnb reggae and afro beats; we also are independent artist-friendly and community-driven. What I’m most proud about Tru Radio are the radio personalities and Dj’s we have on the station; the team we have on the station are heaven-sent. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people I’m very blessed to have them.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not lucky; I’m blessed. I let the lord control every aspect of my life and in business and he has been great to me.
