Meet Christian Mosi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Mosi.

Christian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Derniele but you can call me Christian Mosi; Christian Mosi is Swahili for the oldest child, which my blog is named after. I’m a native of Trinidad and Tobago, who grew up in Orlando, FL. My professional background is a Healthcare Executive but I’m a Fashionista by night. Considered the Clark Kent of Fashion, Mosi is a hard worker that wears a lot of hats. She first got her introduction to the Fashion Industry by studying abroad in London and Paris. “While I was in Europe, I got an understanding of garments, textures, and quality and why it is important to invest in your look.” Your look is an outside reflection of your personality and your look should be a representation of who you are.

Once returning from Europe, all I can do was a dream about clothing and the fashion industry. “It took me five long years for me to take that leap off faith” I connected with influencers in NYC via Instagram and had the opportunity to go to my first NYFW Show; the rest was history. Today I reside in NYC and I’m a fashion managing editor of Volatile Online, Editor and Chief for my website and Fashion Influencer. I’m famous for my NYFW Street Style looks, which have been featured in NY Times and Getty Images. I also host Interviews every Thursday with emerging fashion designers and sustainable brands, which helps brands get exposure to new audience members. “My vision is to change the standards of fashion one roti at a time” There is no physical blueprint for what should be accepted in fashion and my vision is to help others see the beauty and value in themselves in the fashion industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all there were a lot of sleepless nights, tears, and doubts. I was in a position one time that I was unemployed and my blog was my primary source of income. I didn’t know what to do. I thought giving up was the best option. I have a strong faith in God and prayed until I had to learn to surrender and start making solid actions towards success. My best advice is to listen to your self know yourself best and observe your environment; the signs are there pay attention.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My business Christian Mosi Blog is a website that is a resource for upcoming trends, fashion shows, and daily life hacks. I have a few specialties, such as a Fashion Influencer, Brand Ambassador, and Freelance Writer. I specialize in collaborating with brands that want to hold diversity to a high standard. Not only do I represent being a black woman in America, I make it my due diligence to always include my Caribbean heritage in my campaigns and collaborations.

My most proud moments are being highlighted during NYFW for my street style. I wear what represents me. I had people as far as Jamacia and Trinidad reposting me on their social media platforms, saying they look up too me. I work hard because I know where I’m coming from; there is a community behind me that needs to seek the benefits of the doors I open. My culture is not a runway trend. My culture is a way of life and it’s important to show organic representation. What sets me apart aside from other blogs is my eye for detail and the ability to give back to my community. I volunteer some of my time to give back to Youth groups, the elderly and help others seek employment by proofreading resumes at no cost.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child is my grandmother making my clothes. When I attended primary school, she was a seamstress, so she showed me how being properly groomed is key such as having no wrinkles in your shirt or dress. I would get a lot of compliments about my attire growing up and I had to thank my grandmother for a sharp eye for fashion.
