Today we’d like to introduce you to Danixa Lopez.
Danixa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Puerto Rico-Arecibo. My first opportunity in PR was with a local PR agency, where I worked as a junior account executive for over two years before I moved to Miami. I didn’t know anyone in Miami nor had any potential opportunities, but I was keen on making a career in PR here. After about a year living in Miami and searching for opportunities, I landed my first professional job at WEA Latina (known as Warner Music Latina), where I fell in love with the entertainment industry.
After over two years, I ventured into television and accepted a PR and Affiliate Marketing manager position for Telemundo Internacional, the network’s international arm covering the Latin America region. That was an entirely different experience that opened many doors for me, including my next job as director of Public Relations and Marketing at Perfect Image Video Productions. The company produced TV shows such as “Jamz” and “The Roof,” which aired on cable channel mun2, part of Telemundo. These TV shows and the musical events that the company produced were an important part of the expansion of reggaeton in the U.S. Hispanic market.
After such a great ride at Perfect Image, I went to work independently for a couple of years until I joined Santa Cruz Communications (SCC) in 2010. I currently serve as senior director of Public Relations, managing and overseeing accounts in various industries, spanning from education and environment to entertainment and music. I like to think of myself as a storyteller and a strategist who crafts compelling stories based on the commonalities of our clients’ values and goals and their target audiences.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To gain, you need to risk, and risk can bring instability and uncertainty. I left a promising job in my country to come to Miami without any contacts or full command of the language. My first year was challenging, but I didn’t give up. I kept focused on my goal. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I was not only able to find a job but established a successful career. Sometimes, the journey can be rocky, but when that happens, I remind myself of my early years in Miami and find reassurance knowing that I have the tools to overcome any challenges.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Santa Cruz Communications Story. Tell us more about your work.

We offer traditional and digital PR solutions targeted to the U.S. Hispanic and General markets, in English and Spanish. Strategy and creativity are our strengths. We develop and implement compelling campaigns with the clients’ goals in mind, creating engaging content that tells their stories and connect them with their target audience across various channels. We boast a proven track record for delivering results, for which we were recognized with a National BRAVO! Award for Media Event Campaign of the Year by the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) for our PR work on Telemundo’s Billboard Latin Music Awards.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would do many things the same way I did them. However, with experience comes wisdom. If I could speak to my younger self, I’d advise her not to take things so personally, that it’s OK to be wrong and learn from mistakes. To get out of her comfort zone more often and always focus on the big picture and the final goal.
