Meet Sarah Schnitzius of Sarandipity Floral in Port St. Lucie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Schnitzius.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a floral designer specializing in weddings. I have been in the business for 38 years. And a very firm believer in paying it forward. So seven years ago, I decided to open my own business because no one was offering a service that was exclusive to weddings and parties in my area. I believe that it takes extra special customer service and care to pull off a wedding flawlessly. My mom was a wedding dressmaker and a seamstress. She also did flowers so I’ve been doing it pretty much my whole life. I am an incest survivor and fully believe in empowering women and nothing could be more important to a woman than feeling extra special on her wedding day. So I provide a lot more than just flowers. I do décor and I’d become very close with my brides making sure every aspect of their wedding goes off without a hitch.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I come from a very creative family so transitioning was very smooth because my family has always worked with me even when I worked for someone else. I pretty much always had my own following. But COVID 19 has hit us pretty hard It’s been very difficult to in the hospitality industry. All the cancelations and reschedules have been very difficult. But I have managed to try and offer smaller elopement packages and work with girls and their budget even if it means helping them figure out how to do their own décor. My children have helped a lot with social media. I’m not very technologically savvy so that was the most difficult part for me. My mom is in a wheelchair but she still helps out with the creative aspect and she’s like the macgyver of The flower world so she can help me figure out the mechanics on pretty much anything. Clearly for me in my family, it’s more of a calling. I grew up very very poor so creating was are an outlet. In his truly helped me find where I belong in the world.

We’d love to hear more about Sarandipity Floral.
What sets me apart from others is my customer service and how much I care for my girls and their special day. Very proud of my reviews, I have almost 200 and they’re all glowing. I really go out of my way to make sure that everything run smoothly and transitions, perfectly for the entire day. I do a lot of weddings, almost 200 a year, which is an extreme amount but my family has been trained since they were little children so it makes a big difference and customer service is the most important thing. I would say my gift is more knowing what a girl wants and being able to paint her a picture in her mind. I can see a wedding dress or a style and just take off with the entire design from there. Also working with certain budgets can get tricky but I am very good at making something out of nothing, which comes from growing up very poor we didn’t even know we were poor my mom was so creative she would create canopy beds and all kinds of bedding and clothing just from a looking at pictures in magazines so fortunately, I inherited that gift.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Creativity realism honesty. Most girls are really not educated in the flower world and unaware of what prices really are in this day and age with social media it’s very difficult they see all these beautiful things but none of the prices are ever posted so being honest with them about the realm of possibility of what they can and can’t have is key. So being able to explain that to them in a way that doesn’t offend them is a gift that I’ve been given of being very real and getting away with it because they know I care and I want to help them achieve that look to the best of my ability within their budget. I also give a lot of stuff if it was given to me for free and it’s something I don’t have to put any labor into I give it for free so that is also part of my popularity which is why we named the business serendipity it’s a play on my name but it also means a fortunate gift for discoveries. Because for me it’s so important to do the entire look, which is so much more than just flowers.
