Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Rosario.
Alexa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It allll started at Florida Atlantic University. I’d always wanted to go to law school and negotiate huge contracts for mergers and acquisitions and venture capital. While in college, I was insanely involved in student government and became the director of Program Board and managed a $600k budget for the year to host events. While the experience was amazing, I realized that working for huge institutions just wasn’t my thing.
I’d worked for an investor who owned 88 units when I started working for him and helped him acquire the remaining 264. Helped him oversee the acquisition, rehab, leasing and management of the community. In that experience, I realized I still wanted to negotiate — I just wanted to work with people.
I started selling real estate. During my first year, I started Boca Students which was a brand designed to help students find rentals. After doing an ungodly amount of rentals, I moved on to focus on sales instead. In 2014, I started a Meetup group called South Florida Young Professionals which quickly grew to 1,000 members and was created to bring together young professionals to connect, learn and grow together.
Starting SFYP gave me the ability to become the youngest top producer in my office and I now focus on helping people sell homes and invest in real estate in South Florida, and I’m still massively involved in the community.
I currently co-chair of the Emerging Executives Committee of the Tower Club, am a member of the agent Leadership council in my office and the Prospective Member Committee Chair for Junior League of Fort Lauderdale.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not! When you’re pushing yourself to grow, it always feels like you’re being beyond your limits — and more often times than not, you rise to the occasion and surprise yourself. The hardest experience for me though was In September of 2018 when my dad unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack and then almost a year to the date later (Oct 1, 2019), my grandma passed away. His passing changed everything in my life from the way I prioritized my life down to how I ran my business. That unexpected loss affected me in ways that I still can’t fully explain — but it also taught me so much about myself. It made me slow down, appreciate the moment more and overall, just appreciate the little things.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Happy Homes Group story. Tell us more about your work.
Look, there are 90,000 realtors in South Florida and there are only about 3,000 transactions that happen every single month. People have a lot of options — but I’m a firm believer in building a community of people and adding massive value to become their real estate and community resource of choice. When you join my community, you’re not getting more “hey, we just listed a property” emails or “come to my open house” facebook posts — you’re getting tactical advice for building your real estate empire and a community connection that I like to think is like a private membership club.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
One of my favorite quotes is “luck happens when preparation meets opportunity”. I believe that most times, opportunities are dressed in overalls and look like work – they’re not delivered on a silver platter. Most true opportunities are going to stretch you, challenge you and even try to break you. The ones you persist through are where you earn your stripes — so with that said, I get lucky all the time — but not just because some leprechaun favors me but because where most people see challenge, I look for the opportunity.
