Today we’d like to introduce you to Benny Williams.
Benny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off as a spoken word artist back in 2014-2015. I came to college at the end of 2015, still doing poetry, but I gained an interest in music. Around the end of 2016, I wrote some songs and convinced myself and others I could do really do this. I could make quality music.
My first release to reach all platforms was Anxious by BuddhaMane. That song is doing fairly well right now, and from then on, I knew I had a career is songwriting. I created BuddhaClan for two reasons to help artists develop and push B.I.A.S. For those that don’t know B.I.A.S. is a message that stands for Black is always strong. To promote strength and unity in the black community. There are more prejudices against you than there are for you. So how do you stand for your brothers, sisters, or even friends. B.I.A.S. has been on sale since January of 2020 and can be found at BuddhaClan.com.
I split the business into two to allow BuddhaClan to help artists develop and learn as much as they can about their personal brand and how they can develop their own audiences. In the middle of a pandemic creating content, and social media presence are crucial to helping your brand. As well for B.I.A.S. it’s becoming much more than the message intend. It’s currently developing into something that can manage its growth capacity. Coming very soon.
2020 has been a year for good music. Currently working on an EP, short film, and working as executive producer for an album later this year. All ran through BuddhaClan Entertainment. Next year I see the growth of the business being tremendous and I’m glad the music is what got us here in the first place.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some struggles for me have been learning about myself. I’ve spent years trying to prove that I can multitask and every single time I try, it fails. I’ve had to learn that managing one task at a time and organization can move just as fast as trying to use two hands to carry ten plates. I’ve lost money to invest because I didn’t have a strategy for the business. The first time I even sold a shirt was in 2017, but it took three years of lessons for me to even learn how to start a business. I am grateful for God’s timing because the person I was three years would not be able to handle the person I am now!
BuddhaClan Entertainment – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I currently have two. The brand of me as an artist BuddhaMane and BuddhaClan. As an artist, I am working to bring the soul out of Hip-Hop. I label myself a Hip-Hop artist, but mainly I am a songwriter. I’ve worked with some dope singers and even have them featured on songs that I’ve written. I even wrote a song for a client that happens to be my alma mater FIU. In recent that was the biggest client and biggest challenge so far but all in all, fun.
BuddhaClan is an entertainment business that is currently focusing on Artist Development and Song Production. Our first release was Be Enough by BuddhaMane feat. Nate Ellis and Roo The Poet. The business is currently in phase 2 of a 4 part plan. So be on the lookout for the big things we have coming.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mother instilled in me that quality is better than quantity at a very young age. No matter how much actual percentage she has in the development of my business. It all came from her. Everything I do, no matter comes from her nurture. My best friend in the whole world, my cheerleader, my supporter, my love. Anna Stewart has been helping me with every single stage of this business and my mental health. It’s stressing trying to graduate, run a business, create a brand, and be a recording artist. She is there to keep me level headed and keeps me organized.
My Line Brother Joel Palacios. That man is working, but anytime I have any questions about the music industry, he’s there to help. That is a quality network and as he grows and learns himself, he’s always willing to help others. My Step-Father, My Pops. That man was really strict growing up or maybe I was just a hard-headed kid. He helped financially when I had these ideas years ago.
Shoutout to Johnny Jean, Jekasole, Jeremiah Williams, Lynden James, Julian Siaw, Robert James, LAE, Tranae Robinson, Brandon Jackson, DJ Mari, and Nairoby Sandoval for being supportive and stern with the decisions I’ve made this past year. All of them have helped me when I need a new perspective or ears willing to listen. And I have to give it to God. I know those prayers I make every night are heard, and the trials I go through are placed to make me better. So I’m thankful for everything.
