Robert and Noelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started Beautyvice.com September 2009. As a large wholesaler in the Health & Beauty area, we identified the opportunity of bringing the discounted prices we were offering our wholesale customers directly to the retail customer by way of a branded website. This is how Beautyvice.com was born. Having deep, worldwide wholesale connections for sourcing of high end branded health and beauty products at discounted prices, Beautyvice.com has developed a loyal following. With the fast changing online landscape Beautyvice has been in a great position to take advantage of brand restrictions being rolled out by the large marketplaces such as Amazon.com, Walmart.com and Jet.com. Brand restrictions by these marketplaces translates into substantial price increases for their customers. A significant opportunity is thereby created for discount online sellers such as Beautyvice.com to service disappointed customers accustomed to purchasing high end brands at discounted prices on Amazon, Walmart and Jet.
Our goal at Beautyvice is to offer our loyal customers great customer service, high end products and affordable pricing. We feel that everyone should be able to afford great skincare, cosmetics, haircare and fragrances. For this reason, we strive to offer the best selling brands such as Kerastase, Davines, Dior, Tom Ford and Clarins to our customers at affordable prices. We also employ a knowledgeable staff that knows the products sold and are always at hand to help with questions. As the Health & Beauty landscape changes to a more retail-focused selling market, it is important for the customer to become educated as well. They need to understand that paying high prices is truly unnecessary. Beautyvice makes “beautiful” accessible to a larger customer base.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There seems to be a misconception that running an online business is pretty smooth. Just slap your store online and wait for the orders to pour in. That is definitely not the case. We have had many bumps along the way as the landscape continually changes. From algorithmic changes by search engines, website upgrades, software changes, hacking attempts, online fraud, marketplace requirement changes and others. An online store is not static, it is very dynamic requiring daily interaction. These for us have been the challenges.

We are smaller than the competition and that gives us a strategic advantage. We can change to absorb market changes on the fly. We have a very good pulse on what is happening daily regarding the online landscape. If we identify an opportunity we can take advantage of it in a very short period of time. Same for any challenge. Our size is one of our major assets. Our aim is to bring high end brand haircare and skincare at the best possible price online or anywhere for that matter. We couple that with A1 service. That is our formula. We have countless worldwide contacts that supply us with well known brands at deep discounts. We pass along these to our customers. We are lean and we pass these savings along to our loyal customers.
What were you like growing up?
I was always inquisitive. I loved to experiment. I gravitated to technology very easily. As technology opened up opportunities in our traditional wholesale business, we quickly aimed resources to test the waters.
Personally, I love mountain biking, exercising and living a healthy lifestyle. I love working and seeing my efforts pay off.
