Meet Marcos Rios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcos Rios.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcos. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started when I was a male model back in 2004. I was selected by a prestigious talent agency back in Argentina to do some photoshoots. Due to that experience, I became interested in what was going on on the other side of the camera and started taking pictures myself: architecture, some objects, and even my own family and friends. It all began as a hobby, but afterwards, I dated a photographer and we would take pictures together all the time, including portraits. This was my starting point!

After a couple of years of taking photographs in different trips, I realized I was stuck and always doing the same thing. So, I decided to take my hobby to a new level, gain some practice and become a professional. I studied at the Photo Club Argentina, Escuela de Arte and since then, I’ve taken different courses to be updated with the latest trends and techniques.

Three years ago, my husband was relocated, we moved to Miami and the adventure began! I had the chance to work with a Venezuelan visual artist, Jessica Isabel Illacuci, who’s also based here in Miami. We had a cool live photoshoot project and since then, I started doing professional photography more and more. I’ve been working for an agency doing product photography and also working on my own doing portraits, architecture, and landscape photography. I have two Instagram accounts where I show part of my portfolio (one for architecture/landscapes and the other one for portraits), and I’m about to launch my website in a couple of weeks.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be honest, it has been an unsteady road. Living in Argentina, it’s quite difficult to acquire certain products, such as professional cameras and accessories, either because they’re too expensive or because the market is not updated.

I struggled with some financial difficulties and as a result, I couldn’t complete all the degree as I’d have liked. Eventually, I managed to do it virtually. When I finished it and was ready to work in Argentina, we had to move to Miami, start working in a new market and keep updating myself since the trends in this city are quite different.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Currently, I’m covering several areas of professional photography: architecture, landscapes, real estate, products, portraits, business… This let me grow very fast in the short time I’ve been working in Miami and helped me understand what the market is asking for and the dynamics the city has.

I’m really proud of the way I relate to the people I work with. I’m also a Yoga and Pilates teacher, so I need to always create a safe and warm environment for myself and everyone else working with me at that moment: models, makeup artists, hairdressers, every partner, and, of course also my clients. My other passions have shaped the way I work and I believe that is what actually makes me ‘me’.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being the much younger child in a small town modest family, I didn’t have all the opportunities I wish I had, but my parents taught me to become a resourceful person and have multiple interests and passions: many sports, drawing, maths… Every activity a small town could provide, there I was, always involved. Being so active helped me to know and love my community a lot.

I have always done everything out of love, always curious seeking new experiences and magical moments. As a Yoga teacher, I’m a spiritual person who visualizes the energy in each photograph and tries to transmit a warm atmosphere.
