Meet Kim Ruttenberg of YTC Apparel in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Ruttenberg.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in an orthodox community, I always pushed the limits. I was always a rule bender, asked questions and went against societal norms. As I grew up and started finding who I am as a person and what I believed in instead of what others expected of me, I decided to start an Etsy shop, YTC Apparel: You’re Too Comfortable. The items that I make for my online Etsy shop represent challenging societal norms. I believe it is important to stand up and speak out for what you believe in.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Before you can start any business, I think it’s important that you figure out who you are and what you believe in, which is NEVER a smooth road. Everybody faces their own personal challenges, which is a life long process that takes continuous hard work and dedication. There have been many different ideas I have had, started and stopped before it even began. YTC Apparel is one of my first ideas that have come to fruition but it has definitely not been easy. I still struggle everyday to keep pushing when it feels like I’m not getting results and to stay motivated when I have no one else pushing me, but it forces me out of my comfort zone, which helps me to grow everyday.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with YTC Apparel – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
YTC Apparel is my side hustle. I started during quarantine as a way to support myself during these difficult times. My hopes with YTC Apparel is to show people that it is okay to speak out and say things that come to your mind that you may not say because you may be scared of how it is perceived. I am trying to build a community that supports people who don’t fit into the typical ‘box’ of society.

My proudest moment was when someone I didn’t even know bought a T-shirt. I believe what sets me apart from others is my openness to hearing from my customers and listening to what they are looking for.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I always have different side hustles that I like to start like YTC Apparel but my future plans are more on a personal level. I am going into my third year at Nova Southeastern University as a marketing major with huge goals and aspirations. I want to build an empire that supports women and those who don’t have a platform to speak up.
