Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Tafur Leder.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved celebrating occasions big & small, and I love party decor! Give me a reason, and I will find a way to celebrate. A few years ago, I saw Beth Chapo from @seersuckerandsaddles post a photo from her daughter’s birthday. There was a really fun yard greeting, and it turns out it was from her local Sign Gypsy team, @signgypsieszionsville. Ever since that moment, I started following along, enjoying their photos and ability to help their community celebrate life’s occasions.
In early January, I showed my husband one of their posts and he said, ‘you should do that in Miami,’ and so the story begins. I reached out to Sign Gypsies corporate, which is based outside of Dallas and the Miami territory was open. We began the process and I received my first shipment of the product in early March just before the lockdown began. My first real job was for my friend’s son. His birthday was the Friday they announced the school was being canceled the following Monday. From there, it spread by word of mouth, a friend of friends and social media. Today we have been able to service much of South Dade, Coral Gables, South Miami, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Miami Beach and so on.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not always smooth (on the backend), but we learned quickly and are always trying to improve our systems and become more organized and efficient. I always thought I would just be a one-woman show and never thought that I could have a team. However, during quarantine, we had a surge of requests and bookings, and I wanted to be able to help as many people celebrate as possible. My husband generously offered to help me (on top of his other work responsibilities). He began helping with booking and scheduling, and I focused on installing signs, growing a team and our inventory. The hardest thing for us to do is say ‘no’ – there is nothing I like less than that. So I really wanted to be able to fulfill and help as many people celebrate as we could.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sign Gypsies Miami Story. Tell us more about your work.
Sign Gypsies is a yard greeting company. We are a rental business. We are not a printer and we do not print to order. We have a wide variety of inventory that we use and reuse. We are constantly adding new graphics. We listen to our customers and their requests and we curate an assortment that fits what they are looking for, favorite colors, interests, etc. We are very thoughtful when it comes to each sign. We put time and care into each one. No two signs are ever really the same. Our number one goal is customer satisfaction. We are working for them.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We hope that in the future we can continue to deliver more smiles. Sign Gypsies has been around for six years. It is not just something that started because of the pandemic. Our hope is to continue to serve our community by helping them celebrate all of the life moments year after year.
