Today we’d like to introduce you to Lavell and Travell Miller.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We (Lavell, Travell, Seawood and DJ) were born in Chicago, IL. We’re just four black men and friends who decided to come together under the common passion for being behind the bar, in hopes that it would inspire other POC to pursue higher positions in the restaurant industry (specifically, bartending, craft cocktail making/beverage directing and brand representing). Travell, Seawood and I decided to get our bearings in the city of Miami due to the fair weather and abundance of opportunities.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Due to the current Pandemic, the road has been extremely difficult. We now find ourselves trying to come up with a plan to capitalize on the shutdown. Aside from this, we’ve always felt it was hard as black men to obtain positions behind the bar that wasn’t barbacking, needing to work twice as hard and having to know three times more than non-poc’s.
Pour Boys Bartending – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a bartending services company. We consult, plan and serve private events for customers. We offer a variety of experiences; consulting, onsite labor, cocktail/menu creating, spirit tastings and cocktail batching.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing! It’s been an amazing journey with my twin/friends and we all consider ourselves family. Wouldn’t have it any other way
